VINO MAY 15, 2012 Bachelorettes, locavores and quality wine in America It’s a problem that a lot of American wine regions confront: Long Island’s vineyards, Napa and Sonoma, the Willamette Valley, to name a few, are among all within a bachelorette bus ride from metropolitan areas. The guy asked the vintner why he didn’t try to make better wines. His son Jason followed thoughtfully down a similar path. | | SLAKED DECEMBER 3, 2009 Thanksgiving Wines Revisited This Hanzell is without question the single greatest Hanzell wine I have ever tasted. Tags: Cellar Selection 2004 2 stars USA 2006 3 stars Oregon Sonoma Willamette Valley 4 stars I enjoy reading about what everybody had to drink on Thanksgiving more than what they are planning on serving (or selling), so here are my two cents. | SLAKED MARCH 30, 2009 1990 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello * Tasted over a period of five hours, at which point the wine peaked and then started to slowly fall apart. We also tasted a 2004 St. true Willamette Valley style pinot noir with another decade of life in it as well. The 1990 Monte Bello * is another blockbuster. Deep garnet with very light bricking. | | | | | | | | | -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SATURDAY, JANUARY 12, 2008 Five Nights of Oregon Pinot - Part V He started St Innocent in 1988 and has been making some of the more highly sought-after wines from the Willamette Valley ever since. tasted the 2000 Brut 3 years ago and I really liked it, by the way. And it tastes that way too at first, quite big and powerful, although there is obvious acidity and a mineral streak too. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 2008 Five Nights of Oregon Pinot Noir - Part IV honestly do not remember how I knew to visit Adelsheim when BrooklynLady and I toured Willamette wine country in the unusually sunny and warm first week of January, 2005. In fact, it was an Adelsheim wine that recently won Eric Asimov's NY Times Tasting panel sampling of Oregon Pinot Gris. Yup, basically 2 years ago on the button. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2008 Five Nights of Oregon Pinot Noir - Part I In that spirit, BrooklynLady and I dug into the ol' wine fridge and sampled five Oregon Pinots from the Willamette Valley. We drank these wines with dinner, not all together in the typical tasting format. We were looking for some sort of continuity in the wines, though, so we decided to taste wines from the 2004 vintage. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2007 Twelve at 12 Years Old: A Tasting of Mature Long Island Reds Cruising the hilly outback in the Willamette Valley, Oregon? This was the scene last Sunday when I went to the North Fork to meet Lenn and five other good people to taste a case of mature Long Island reds. Lenn decided to put together a tasting of 12 year old wines from the 1995 vintage. How would these wines hold up? MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JUNE 26, 2007 2005 Oregon Pinot - Two More Bottles I am so happy to find that I might be a big fan of the 2005 vintage in the Willamette Valley. The '04 wines I've tasted tend to be lush and fruit forward, concentrated and dark, new world in style. Like '04, '05 was another tough one in which yields were low. heartily recommend both of these wines. From vines planted in 1996. MORE >>
