Oily" is used to describe the texture or body of a wine and is commonly associated with Semillon - which may be why I used that descriptor (another benefit to blind tasting). tried to get down a "bug juice" of sorts that was simply awful. Ahhhh.

    had a Bordeaux Blanc made by Arietta called the "Arietta White Wine on White Keys 2006" that was a blend of Sauvignon Blanc & Semillon and had an interesting breadiness with some melon & pineapple aromas.     "Today's Bordeaux" tasting event
    The 2003 Chateau Lamourette Sauternes made from 90% semillon, 6% Muscadelle & 4% Sauvignon Blanc was quite pleasant. I attended this event for the second year in a row at The Altman Building in NY city. The event features 100+ (they say 100, but I'm told it is closer to 110) wines from Bordeaux at reasonable (sub $30) prices.

    Jenny & Francois Portfolio Tasting
    2007 Haut la Vigne Côtes de Duras - 50-50 chardonnay and semillon. In case you're not familiar with Jenny & Francois , they import natural wines from all over France, from heavy hitters like Burgundy to unsung heroes like the Côtes de Duras (just northeast of Bordeaux, and considered Southwest France). Maybe it's just odd wine making.

    French Kiss: A French wine tasting dinner
    The dessert wine was Chateau Castelnau Suduiraut 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc.     Brooklyn Uncorked: A Tasting of Long Island Wines
    2006 Shinn Estate Vineyards First Fruit Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon , $23. The blend with Semillon (4%) and that this wine sees oak seems to indicate that Shinn is going for a white Bordeaux style wine. I'm already a believer in Long Island wine. already like them. They typically clock in between 12-13.5% alcohol. Excellent wine. Yummy.
