JUNE 1, 2008 [Savoie] Dom. Dupasquier Roussette de Savoie "Altesse" 2006 **
According to Oz Clarke , wines that are designated as Roussette de Savoie AOC are blended with up to 50% chardonnay, although those marked specifically as "Altesse," as this was, will be made from this grape only. At under $20, this was a great bargain, and a wonderful introduction to the wines of Savoie This was sumptuous, and hard to define. Both lively and ample, with floral notes, dried apricots, kiwi, quince, and toast.

SEPTEMBER 26, 2008 [Savoie] The Under $25 Crowd
2006 Eugene Carrel & Fils Rousette de Savoie " Altesse " gave me a headache. What a week. This is the problem with the "under $25/bottle case." You never know what you're going to get. Unfortunately, I haven't been as lucky as Eric Asimov finding quality cheap French wine at retail in NYC. That said, I hate to harp on bad wines. it's just not worth my time. so merely to sum it all up, here's an overview of what we've been drinking.

APRIL 25, 2008 [Savoie] Friday Night Bubbles
It's a sparkling wine from the Savoie region and I got for about $9. I should have known, as the back label boasts "Jean-Paul Trocadero moved his family from Paris to the region known as Savoie after the Napoleonic wars.
VIGNA UVA VINO [Savoie] Notro Sangiovese - Bonarda 2008 Argentina
| TUESDAY, JULY 14, 2009
It originates in Savoie
, where it is known as Corbeau or Douce Noir ("Sweet Black"), but is not the same as Piedmont's Dolcetto. This really interesting blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Bonarda from Mendoza region of Argentina. Medium bodied with aromas of ripe red berries, and a forest floor lushness. The flavors are soft and tannins are supple with a long silky finish. Found this for about $10 at The Wine Room of Forest Hills. 13% alcohol. MORE >>

2006 Domaine Labbe Vin de Savoie
Abymes, $10, Skurnik Imports (100% Jaquere). For several months now the Euro is comfortably in the 1.5 range. Yup, it costs over $1.50 to buy one Euro. If you're in France, for example, and you exchange $100, you walk away with only 65 Euro, and that's before commissions and fees. This isn't going to change tomorrow or next month - we're going to live with this for a while I bet. MORE >>
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE [Savoie] Dressner Portfolio Tasting Notes
| TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2008
Wines of the Savoie
- didn't taste 'em. So after the hard and wonderful work of the Terry Theise Portfolio tasting, we rushed over to the east side for Louis/Dressner tasting. There was simply no way to taste everything, even if this were the only tasting of the day. There were 250 wines, and I don't know about you, but I can't thoughtfully taste more than about 50 wines in one session. MORE >>
