Distinctive White Wines of Alto Adige
Among the many wines tasted were varieties familiar to Americans: Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blanc, and even Sauvignon Blanc. "You need a valet!" " remarked a trio of friends from Manhattan's Wine Media Guild on a very cloudy and rainy March 10th, as I stepped into the Metropolitan space on 18th street.

    Farro Salad
immediately wanted a Sancerre, or any Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire, as the goat cheese seemed to ask for it. Last summer I had lunch at Al Di La , the Venetian trattoria in my neighborhood and one of things we ate was a delicious farro salad. Farro is the Italian name for wheat berries - whole grain wheat. Farro has a lot of protein.

    VIVI Falanghina 2009
In the past two years I have come to enjoy Voignier, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Frascati, Tocai Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc and Albarino along with several white blends. I am finding it hard to accept that I am becoming a fan of white wines over what I always thought would be my only choice, that is, red wines. The aroma was all apple.

    Year In Review
This French Sauvignon Blanc was delightful. Time to look back on what was an eventful year, personally and with the blog and my exploration into the world of wine. Here at home, I guess eventful would be saying it a tad mildly. The first quarter saw the death of my father-in-law and a bout with an intestinal disease. Marvelous Wine!

As we sat down I took out the wine I brought along, the 2008 Pierre Gonon St Joseph Blanc Les Oliviers , $32, Fruit of the Vines Imports. This is a phenomenal wine, and one of the interesting things about it is that honestly, served blind, there would be no way to peg it as Sauvignon Blanc. Thai food for the western palate.
