And 'focus' is a key word at these tastings. While it is nice to be able to taste every wine from every producer, it is a better educational experience to just focus on one or two varietals, which means in Chile a Sauvignon Blanc (SB) or Chardonnay (Chard). I'm talking about 1991 and 1992 (I think) Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet , several vintages of Clos Rougeard , including a phenomenal 1997 Saumur-Champigny Les Clos, 1997 and 2000 Thomas-Labaille Sancerre Cuvée Buster Les Monts Damnés , 2001 Houillon/Overnoy Savagnin , and more. did settle for a fairly nice Sancerre with a very nice char-broiled salmon. very smooth full body red wine was the best of the red wines tasted on this vacation.
