The other day I was in Astor Wines and I noticed a few bottles on the shelves by Henri Milan, a producer that I really like in Provence. At Buttermilk Channel recently we ordered a 2006 Grammercy Cellars Lagniappe Syrah ** from Columbia Valley, produced by Master Sommelier Greg Harrington. Succulent comes to mind, as do dried herbs and Provence and perhaps even dried roses. MORE >>

But I found two of them recently, and they're both from Provence. Is Provence quietly putting out the best $10 red wines? Provence is such a misunderstood wine region. Or perhaps, truly fine red wines made from Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and the other southern grapes, will in 30 years be coming from the more northerly climes of Beaujolais and Burgundy.
