BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, MARCH 23, 2012 Forcing Myself to Drink New Wines drank an Oregon Pinot Gris and I really liked it. Now, if you've been following this blog for a while, you know that I used to drink a lot of Oregon Pinot. But one day in February I was browsing in a large Manhattan store in which I don't normally shop, and I saw bottles of 2010 Montinore Pinot Gris on sale for just under $11. -
DR. VINO | THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 2012 Moncuit, Roagna, Cascina della Rose, Arnot-Roberts – Polaner highlights Mostly the range consistes of blanc de blancs from Mesnil, but the rosé has 25% pinot noir from Ambonnay. Of the Wind Gap wines, I found the 2010 Windsor Oaks Vineyard Pinot Gris, which sees about 100 days of skin contact and has a resulting orange-y hue, good acidity and a phenolic quality. The rosé has a lip-smacking acidity. -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, MARCH 19, 2012 Skaneateles Lake Wine Tour The 2007 Sync and an outstanding 2008 blend of Cab Franc, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon called Overlay Verse 4. The wine was a beautiful blend of 50% Riesling, 20% Pinot Gris, 30% Cayuga White that paired very well with the fish dinner. Entrance sign off W. Lake Rd. On this day, I tasted only a few whites. -

A WINE STORY | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2011 Lunch with Winemaker David Forsyth of Mercer Estates Mercer Estates wines sampled at lunch included the Pinot Gris (one of the best selling wines in Washington), the Merlot (absolutely my favorite of the Mercer Estates wines with its mouth filling, rich flavor, incredible balance, and pure elegance of fruit) and Cabernet Sauvignon. WHY WINE BLOG | TUESDAY, MAY 10, 2011 No Wine?? No Way!!! Friday I enjoyed a few glasses of Paco & Lola Albarino and Sunday a very nice Pinot Gris from MacMurray Ranch. I mentioned in my last post that I have been dealing with an ulcer issue. It's something I've had for about 20 years and seems to come and go whenever. In the meantime, I have given up coffee and wine. -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, MARCH 28, 2011 Castllo Banfi San Angelo Pinot Grigio 2010 This week has been about as far up and down on Pinot Grigio as it can get. Earlier in the week I tasted what maybe the worst tasting Pinot Grigio I ever had. Pinot Grigio makes terrific aperitifs before a meal. The San Angelo Pinot Grigio from Castello Banfi is one of the best I've had at my young white wine drinking age. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, JANUARY 17, 2011 Cooking a Rabbit James MacGuire in The Art of Eating writes "With the rich but not unusually flavorful sauce of rabbit with white wine and cream, you might drink a dry or near dry, fresh, aromatic Alsace Riesling or Pinot Gris." The other night, I cooked a rabbit for the first time. The first task was to butcher the rabbit. Rabbit - need more practice. -
A WINE STORY | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2010 Comparing Pinot Gris from Alsace & Oregon, and Pinot Grigio from Italy said a bewildered friend after blind tasting three different versions of the Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio grape. And it’s true … some might even call Pinot Gris/Grigio the multi-personality wine because of the way it takes on so many different expressions. Pinot Gris/Grigio without Tears. -
A WINE STORY | WEDNESDAY, MAY 12, 2010 Tasting 2007 J Vineyards Russian River wines. It’s always interesting to taste wines with a winemaker at hand to ask questions – the J Vineyards Pinot Gris ($16) from the Russian River valley struck me as full bodied, fragrant, floral, and volumptuous. The reason, I discover, is that Bursick was able to add this fullness and tropical fragrance in the course of fermentation. -
ALICE FEIRING | WEDNESDAY, MAY 5, 2010 Portland Indie Wine Festival: Wines to watch out for Some thoughts: #1- 2007 was a hard year to mess up for pinot--at least that's what I thought for the first flight! 2- Except for the exception (such as Eyrie Vineyards who can do no wrong) many just do not know what to do with pinot gris. Finally! In the mail? That's not Oregon, I'm just kidding you! Here, here Rogue Valley! -

VIGNA UVA VINO | TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2009 Firesteed Oregon Pinot Gris 2006 From a blend of various vineyard sources and regions within the Willamette and Rogue Valleys in Oregon, this Pinot Gris varietal does well in this place. VIGNA UVA VINO | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2009 Erath Pinot Gris 2008 Oregon Made from the Pinot Gris grape in Oregon, pleasing fresh layers of kiwi, lychee, honeysuckle and ginger aromas unfold with tropical fruit flavors and ripe banana, lemon and floral notes. Showing a lively acidity and a very good structure and finish, Erath produced an appealing everyday white at the $14 range. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2009 Wine and Cheese - Le Welsche and Gewurztraminer In general, Gewurztraminer and Muscat make aromatic wines, whereas Riesling and Sylvaner are more mineral, and Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc are more about fresh fruit. I'm one of those weirdos who likes Gewurztraminer. It's true, so many of the wines are very bad - sweet and unbalanced, too viscous, devoid of subtlety, crude. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2008 Jenny & Francois Portfolio Tasting Binner - I liked everything I tasted - pinot gris, riesling, gewurtztraminer, even the pinot noir. Here are a few things that struck me during the tasting: If I had tasted blind, I would have guessed wrong on the grape varieties in many of these wines. Maybe it's just odd wine making. Maybe a bit of both. Should be under $20. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SATURDAY, JANUARY 12, 2008 Five Nights of Oregon Pinot - Part V We return to Shea Vineyard on this, the fifth and final night of our Oregon Pinot festival.
