The trouble is choosing it. This year we returned to the Baja of Mexico, which carries its own problems in choosing wine. | | | | | | | | | | | | SLAKED DECEMBER 30, 2009 2007 Ridge Vineyards Dusi Ranch Late Harvest Zinfandel I'll just say it: I'm not a fan of late harvest zinfandel. So this 2007 Late Harvest Dusi Ranch is the only wine from Ridge I couldn't really get into this year. On the bright side, Ridge has instituted a new membership log-in to streamline purchases online. Thank baby Jesus, too. | | | | | | | | | -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, APRIL 4, 2011 Cinnabar Mercury Rising 2008 This California wine used grapes from Paso Robles, Lodi, Lake Country and Monterey County. Felt real smooth in the mouth with taste of dark plums, cherry, some anise and spice. Tonight was one of them nights when Shirley did not feel like cooking, I was not hungry and the NCAA Basketball National Championship was being played. MORE >> -
A WINE STORY | SUNDAY, MAY 1, 2011 Auction & Farewell BBQ It was so nice to see winemakers we met in the Rhone Valley during "Discover Rhone" and meet new winemaker friends from Paso Robles, Australia, and Rhone style wine producers all around California. WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, APRIL 3, 2011 Cinnabar Sorcerer's Stone 2008 Not being a wine connoisseur, I love it when I open a new wine and just fall in love with what I found or what, in this case, was sent to me for tasting. Recently I received a few samples from Cinnabar Winery in the Paso Robles region of California. Tasted some elderberry and currant with dark berries. MORE >> -
A WINE STORY | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2010 Robert Mondavi Private Selection The Cab Sauv was aged in French oak for 14 months and sourced from fruit primarily in Monterey and Paso Robles - ditto for the Meritage. The wine arrived with cheese from Cowgirl Creamery with the idea to compare and make tasting suggestions. Jammy and rich are good descripters here. MORE >> -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2010 Why Wine: Bonterra Vineyards Zinfandel 2007 To do so, I will have to taste, I mean drink, more wines that I never tried or wines I just never liked. That was not until I tasted and reviewed a Paso Robles Zin from Agent for Change. More intense than the last Zin I tasted and liked, but still not as bold or peppery as most I've had. It just never happened. MORE >>
