With May and New York Riesling month coming to close soon, it is safe to say that I tasted more Riesling this month than any one year in my life. Although the crowd was small, the location on the lake was fantastic and the festival seemed well organized. Although Mother Nature kept the party wet, spirits were not dampened by the festival staff, the vendors, the wineries or the visitors and the wine was great, after all, it was Finger Lakes Rieslings. Two years ago I would have never had a Riesling in the fridge, let alone think of opening one for any reason. Thankfu lly for me, a no sugar guy, the 2008 vintage is a dry Riesling, 1.0% In 30+ years as a wine drinker, I would have never believed a Riesling could be this good. The second, I enjoyed with my daughter's roasted organic free range chicken and some fabulous roasted potato fingerlings.
