Unbelievable price for a very good Nero D'Avola This is a great little bottle of Villa Cutò that I found at Deegan's in Woodhaven, Queens for about $8. Wine Enthusiast magazine put on their "Toast of the Town" wine & food event yesterday in NYC at Lincoln Center.  A very large event that took place on two levels & a large balcony & included some of NYC's finest dining establishments.  There was lots of good food, good wine & happy people. But it wasn't all perfect.  Very well done!

Nero D'Avola , the most important grape in Sicily , typically exudes exotic flavors and aromas. The first thing I notice is that this 100% Nero D'Avola is ready to drink without decanting and has a flavor profile reminiscent of a much higher priced wine. well, this one delivers in spades.

Italy • This dry red wine from Sicily is 25% Frapatto Nero, 25% Nerello Cappuciccio, 25% Nerella Mascalese and 25% Nero D'avola. Italy • This red wine from Sicily is made mainly from 70% Nero D'avola , 15% Perricone, and 15% Nerello Mascalese. usually like Nero D'avolas so I was a little surprised by this one although it may be the blending grapes that don't appeal to me The nose is a cherry but with a background aroma of horse manure.

I had so much fun talking about two of the Italian wines in our starter kit last week that I though I would riff on a couple more this week. Colosi is still my favorite Nero D'Avola in the below $20 price range. color: deep purple rose; nose : chocolate, cherry, pepsi, red licorice candy, oak, smoke ; palate: berries, blueberry, strawberry, cherries. Good wine, takes a while to open up, maybe decant this for an hour or two.

From the south we are offering a Nero d'Avola from the island region of Sicily that celebrates how far their wines have come in the past fifteen or so years. Well the Wine Starter kit for January went very well. We are pretty stoked by the reception. So we are going to keep it going and for February we have picked a new set of six.

From the south I chose to wax on wax off about the Nero d'Avola. Here in New York Nero d'Avola, Sicily's most important grape has slowly crept into our vocabulary. For me there are two schools of Nero d'Avola. And Firriato achieves this with their Nero d'Avola. and at In Vino. love this wine.
