Lot 169 Napa Valley Merlot 2007: new release Blue fruits, candy cane, some heat, blueberries, oak, structured. My favorite of the group. | SLAKED MAY 20, 2009  2008 Monte Bello Futures Tasting The 2008 Monte Bello will (probably) be made from just cabernet sauvignon and merlot for the first time in twenty-five years. SLAKED | FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 2009 Ridge Vineyards Z-List Spring Shipment
Ridge Vineyards Z-List Spring shipment included the 2007 Geyserville, East Bench, and Paso Robles zinfandels. We tasted these wines blind over the past five nights, with a 2004 Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon thrown in to mix things up. I'm happy to say that 2007 zinfandel so far has exceeded expectations. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | MONDAY, MAY 5, 2008  NorCal day 2: Sonoma
stayed in a northern part of Napa known as Calistoga and made my way North West to Sonoma county. Zinfandel is a very common varietal in Sonoma county and I tried 2 Zins at Sausal; the 2004 Family Zinfandel & the 2005 Private reserve Zin. There was also a Merlot, Cab, and then 4 zinfandels. Connie & I worked together at Napa Wine Company where she was easily one of my favorite people. We started the visit with a white as I tried what I was told the only Albarino from Napa (or maybe it was the first?). We had some Merlot & Cab from both a regular series and a reserve one. He is collaborating with a winemaker I used to work with in Napa and poured that wine for me in addition to his own wine. His 2004 Neiman Cellars Napa Valley Red is a blend of 1/3 Cab Sauvignon, 1/3 Merlot, & 1/3 Cab Franc. Maybach winery from the Napa Valley had one wine at the tasting. Zinfandels and 1 Syrah. WINE TASTING GUY | TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2008 Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally)
Lang & Reed Napa Winery was represented by the husband and wife team who make the wines and they were great. And their 2004 "Right Bank" Red, a blend of Cab Franc (53%), Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (9%) & Cab Sauv (8%) was beautiful. Also had a nice Cabernet from Oakville, the town in Napa where I lived and worked. MORE >>
