Made a trip back up to the Golan Heights today. I even got to take a trip up a row of vines on a mechanical harvester. | WINE TASTING GUY OCTOBER 21, 2008 Blending Wines. Time does fly when you are having fun, but I have been doing SO MUCH running around that I can't believe I have only been in Israel for 1 week so far (OK, 9 days). We were playing with 3 varietals - Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah & Sangiovese. Has it only been a week? I have 6 days left, but I know that will fly. Can't wait! | | | | | | | WINE TASTING GUY OCTOBER 18, 2008 What a Day! 2 Wine Tastings!! I went away (within Israel) for the sabbath to a friend of the family. of Syrah was very interesting. After the Sabbath I drove into Tel Aviv to meet up with a friend who I may work with on my Israel Wine Project. A Sangiovese/Syrah/Cab Franc blend was intriguing and determined to be a great food wine. While | WINE TASTING GUY SEPTEMBER 27, 2008 Wines for the New (Jewish) Year UNDER $30 A very well made yet restrained wine, the Cab Franc is much lighter in body than most Cabs, Merlots, or Syrahs, and is a great choice for your lighter holiday meals as the wine will not overpower the food as might be the case with the bigger bodied wines. I'm sorry for the delay in writing this post. Let's start with Carmel. | WINE TASTING GUY SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 Trump event & Rally to STOP IRAN We poured some amazing wines from Israel and California and the guests LOVED THE WINES. Among the many highlights of the day was when Ivanka Trump came by, tried, and LOVED an Israeli Syrah we were pouring. Sadly I missed her at the end of the event but I sent Eric with a bottle of the Syrah for her. rally flier. | WINE TASTING GUY JUNE 29, 2008 Less know wine region(s) in the news But any post about Israeli wines will be elaborate and hopefully include some specific news/update describing progress concerning my previously discussed Israel Wine Project. Finally, I have heard many people compare the Mediterranean climate of Israel to that of the Southern Rhone Valley. Happy lesser known wine region wine tasting! | | | | | | | | | -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 2008 Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines could write about the fabulous Israeli Cab or the not so fabulous French Bordeaux, the overrated California red, or awful Israel Merlot (it was BAD) but who cares?!?!! Merlot, Cab, Syrah - been there done that. lighter wine than a Cab, merlot or Syrah, Barbera is said to be the most (or second most) planter varietal in Italy. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2008 Best bet (kosher) Israeli wines for Passover - at all price ranges. Well regarded throughout Israel, Recanati produces some fine wines. They make a Yiron Syrah which is very nice as well, but their regular Yiron, which is a Bordeaux blend (a blend of the grapes used in French Bordeaux), sometimes with Syrah added in is just a fabulous wine. Also from Yarden is their Syrah and Pinot Noir. MORE >> -

I'm off to Israel this week to meet with my fabulous boutique wine producing contacts and help to bring back NY/US worthy wines. There were only 7 of us there, and 5 of the 7 can be considered "industry" people (the other two are "public defenders"). No Cabernet Sauvignion. MORE >> -

EAST VILLAGE WINE GEEK | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 2008 Casa Marguery Malbec: Bringing the Past to the Present and Into the Future What is definite though is that in the late 1800's and early 1900's Argentina saw a huge influx of European immigrants settle on their land bringing with them all kinds of vitis vinifera rootstocks, from Barbera to Chardonnay and from Syrah to Cot or Malbec. The word Malbec is being heard more and more these days. The answer is yes we do. MORE >>
