AUGUST 13, 2008 [Israel, Shiraz] A taste of Israel
Where did it come from (Israel), what region (most from Galille, but some from Golan), what grapes were used (Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Viognier, etc.). Happy B-day to WTG. Happy B-day to WTG, Happy B-day to WTG, Happy B-day to YOU! OK, that is out of the way. I tend to I shy away from b-day attention, but hey, a Wine Tasting Guy only turns 21 (yeah, right) once right?!?!? Anyway, I attended a wine tasting tonight, and it was my favorite kind.

FEBRUARY 18, 2008 [Israel, Shiraz] Wine Deal - another Aussie Shiraz - AND.
The Two Hands 'Harry Edward's' Shiraz being sold here for $37 was given positive ratings by both Wine Spectator (91) and Robert Parker (91). Although $37 is a lot for a bottle of wine, when others are selling the same bottle for NO LESS THAN $45 and as much as $70 the $37 price tag doesn't seem so bad. I haven't tasted this wine so I don't have much more to say about it.but I have A LOT to say about all these Australian wines reaching stratospheric (relative term, I know, but.) prices.

MARCH 26, 2008 [Israel, Shiraz] Best bet (kosher) Israeli wines for Passover - at all price ranges.
Also in the $13-$14 range from Galil Mountain and worth checking out is their Merlot &/or Shiraz. Well regarded throughout Israel, Recanati produces some fine wines. Another fruit forward wine with a BIG BURLY BODY is the Estate Shiraz from Dalton. Their Shiraz/Cab blend is a very nice wine. Dalton has some nice wines for about $30 including their Reserve Syrah or their Zinfandel which sold out in Israel.

OCTOBER 19, 2008 [Israel, Shiraz] Carmel's quality wine revolution
Among the many things I must do is to better acquaint myself with one of Israel's oldest wineries - Carmel. As for the reds, the single vineyard 2005 Kayoumi Cab showed black fruit, was round, approachable and very elegant, while the 2004 Kayoumi Shiraz was very upscale shiraz in style with a touch of black pepper, very fruit forward and a long finish. I have heard some criticism regarding the high alcohol levels of some of Israels wines.

WINE TASTING GUY [Israel, Shiraz] Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines
| SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 2008
I could write about the fabulous Israeli Cab or the not so fabulous French Bordeaux, the overrated California red, or awful Israel
Merlot (it was BAD) but who cares?!?!! The Kadesh Barnea Winery is located in Southern Israel
in the Negev desert. I tasted a wine of theirs a few months ago at a tasting in Israel
and was very impressed. I was told that the blend was an UNUSUAL one - containing Petit Verdot, Shiraz
& Petit Sirah. MORE >>
WINE TASTING GUY [Israel, Shiraz] Wines for the New (Jewish) Year UNDER $30
| SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2008
are their single varietal Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz
. Often overlooked by Israeli wine lovers given its perception as the entry level series from the Golan Heights Winery, this wine is a very nice example of an Israeli Cab and Goldberg suggests pairing it with duck breast & braised short ribs (**note to those I'm eating holiday meals with**). ;) Two other wines I want to briefly mention are kosher wines NOT from Israel

WINE TASTING GUY [Israel, Shiraz] Italian Wine tasting (Sicily) & Pizza
| SUNDAY, JANUARY 6, 2008
No Cab Franc, Petit Verdot or even any Syrah (shiraz
). I'm off to Israel
this week to meet with my fabulous boutique wine producing contacts and help to bring back NY/US worthy wines. I just got back from a fabulous impromptu Italian wine & pizza tasting with several of my wine tasting group members (and some guests/possible new members??). There were only 7 of us there, and 5 of the 7 can be considered "industry" people (the other two are "public defenders"). MORE >>
