Made a trip back up to the Golan Heights today. Once again, feeling like a VIP (I think I can get used to this) I was taken on a private tour of some vineyards and given a tasting of selected wines. looks a little freaky huh. | WINE TASTING GUY OCTOBER 21, 2008 Blending Wines. Time does fly when you are having fun, but I have been doing SO MUCH running around that I can't believe I have only been in Israel for 1 week so far (OK, 9 days). Once again trusty Wine Tasting Guy told them that many Bordeaux (generally Right Bank) have a majority Merlot. Has it only been a week? Can't wait! Make your own blends! | | | | | | | WINE TASTING GUY OCTOBER 19, 2008 Carmel's quality wine revolution Among the many things I must do is to better acquaint myself with one of Israel's oldest wineries - Carmel. Prior to visiting the winery today I tried their LOW LEVEL supermarket 2007 "Private Collection" Cab/Merlot blend. I have heard some criticism regarding the high alcohol levels of some of Israels wines. And taste I did. | WINE TASTING GUY OCTOBER 18, 2008 What a Day! 2 Wine Tastings!! I went away (within Israel) for the sabbath to a friend of the family. After the Sabbath I drove into Tel Aviv to meet up with a friend who I may work with on my Israel Wine Project. While the king, a Cab based wine (with 10% Merlot) was thoroughly enjoyed and drunk to the last drop. Crisp, minerally, refreshing.great start! | WINE TASTING GUY SEPTEMBER 27, 2008 Wines for the New (Jewish) Year UNDER $30 No Merlots (OK, maybe 1) and no Cab's (OK, maybe 1 or 2). A very well made yet restrained wine, the Cab Franc is much lighter in body than most Cabs, Merlots, or Syrahs, and is a great choice for your lighter holiday meals as the wine will not overpower the food as might be the case with the bigger bodied wines. Staying with Galil Mt., | WINE TASTING GUY AUGUST 13, 2008 A taste of Israel Where did it come from (Israel), what region (most from Galille, but some from Golan), what grapes were used (Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Viognier, etc.). Happy B-day to WTG. Happy B-day to WTG, Happy B-day to WTG, Happy B-day to YOU! OK, that is out of the way. It was an ISRAELI WINE tasting. And it was FABULOUS! | | | | | | | | | -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, JUNE 29, 2008 Less know wine region(s) in the news But any post about Israeli wines will be elaborate and hopefully include some specific news/update describing progress concerning my previously discussed Israel Wine Project. Finally, I have heard many people compare the Mediterranean climate of Israel to that of the Southern Rhone Valley. Happy lesser known wine region wine tasting! MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 2008 Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines could write about the fabulous Israeli Cab or the not so fabulous French Bordeaux, the overrated California red, or awful Israel Merlot (it was BAD) but who cares?!?!! Merlot, Cab, Syrah - been there done that. lighter wine than a Cab, merlot or Syrah, Barbera is said to be the most (or second most) planter varietal in Italy. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2008 Best bet (kosher) Israeli wines for Passover - at all price ranges. Also in the $13-$14 range from Galil Mountain and worth checking out is their Merlot &/or Shiraz. Well regarded throughout Israel, Recanati produces some fine wines. Dalton has some nice wines for about $30 including their Reserve Syrah or their Zinfandel which sold out in Israel. Buy it up, drink it and be proud. category. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2008 Casual wine tasting Two of the favorites were an Israeli Cab/ Merlot blend from the newly imported Ruth Winery. A real quickie today. friend threw a very casual wine tasting at his place on Saturday night. He bought about 12 bottles, I brought over 4 and people brought their own. No theme to the tasting, just grab a glass and pour yourself some stuff. MORE >> -
