It's lovely right upon opening, but with a little airtime there are incredibly well defined aromas of pure and clean Gamay fruit, iron, and very mild brett. And it's not a cop-out to describe an aroma as " Gamay fruit." This wine smells like Gamay, and that's a beautiful thing, when done properly. It's part of their style. MORE >> -

The grapes grown here are Grenache, syrah, mouverde and cinsaut. The Vacqueyras we had was a blend of Syrah mostly and grenache and surprisingly some gamay according to the owner. Upon my initial sip I could see why the Gamay was in there. It smoothed out the rough edges of the syrah and granache wonderfully. MORE >> -

It starts out with primarily shiraz ( syrah) and a good amount of the South African original, pinotage, a viticultural cross of Cinsaut and Pinot Noir created in the 1920's. It is one of the most popular wines in France, normally made from Gamay grapes and fermented for just a few weeks then officially released for sale on the third Wednesday of November.
