    Chateau Clinet Pomerol 2004
    The Chateau Clinet Bordeaux is from the Pomerol appellation in the Bordeaux region of south-western France. Although I try to keep my tasting notes and blog reviews to wines that are much less expensive, I also like to post about wines I enjoyed and this Bordeaux I enjoyed immensely. I am finally getting around to trying French wines.

    Craggy Range Te Kahu 2009
    First, this is the first New Zealand red wine I have tasted in a least four years. The 2009 Te Kahu is a Bordeaux style blend of 80% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec. The last was an unimpressive Pinot Noir that, along with some not so favorable press about NZ reds, kept me away from trying anymore.

    On Sunday I opened my favorite Finger Lakes red wine, a Cabernet Franc. But, that has always been because of the fantastic tasting room and building and lake view from the deck.     Salmon Run Meritage 2008
    did pass on a few nice California reds though and stayed with the Finger Lakes and a Salmon Run Meritage 2008 ( $11 ), a blend of 54% Cabernet Franc, 39.5% The finish was nice and long, spicy, dry with a taste of currant. Grilled a few NY strip steaks this past week-end and looked forward to opening a nice red wine for change. Merlot.

    Finger Lakes Wine Fest 2011
    Glad I took the ride before drinking and/or tasting any wine. The rest of the day was tasting great wines and stocking my depleted wine fridge. When storing the wines after retuning home, I found that I had tasted and selected more red wines than white, especially the Cabernet Franc. mile road track at Watkins Glen.

    I always relish the rare opportunity to taste a California wine from the 1970s, the era before rising temperatures and fruit bombs. But I recently had something even more rare: tasting the BV, Georges de Latour, Private Reserve, Napa Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon, 1958. In 1969, Beaulieu sold to Heublein; now it is owned by Diageo.

    Shinn Estate Vineyards Rose` 2010
    A few weeks ago I read a very nice review on the New York Cork Report about a Long Island dry Rose` made with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. It's only been about three years since I started to appreciate Rose` wine and they have all been 100% Finger Lakes Cab/Franc. This Long Island wine sounded very interesting.

    Domaine Monte De Luz Tannat Reserva 2007
    This is the first wine from Uruguay that I had an opportunity to taste and the first time for a wine made from the Tannat grape. Tannat is a red wine grape, historically grown in South West France in the Madiran AOC and is now one of the most prominent grapes in Uruguay, where it is considered the "national grape".

    Cinnabar Mercury Rising 2008
    The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Peite Verdot and Malbec was again delightful. Felt real smooth in the mouth with taste of dark plums, cherry, some anise and spice. game I have not missed in 38 years.     When it was purchased by Albrecht Seeger and his family in 1978, the winery moved to the Brae Burns Estate (where you can find Icewine varitals such as Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and Vidal.     also have become more interested in the wines of France. My best Rosé - Heron Hill Cabernet Franc Dry Rosé 2006. Tasted more Riesling this past year than I have had in my entire life. Although known primarily for white wines, the Finger Lakes does very well with Cab Franc and Lemberger and their red blends.
