VIGNA UVA VINO | THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2009 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 This was my favorite from the first flight at the Snooth Cabernet tasting last week. Initially, beautiful dark ripe blackberry aromas assault together with wafts of berries, and hints of vanilla, spices and cassis. 15% alcohol and $16.99 -

SLAKED | WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2009 2008 Monte Bello Futures Tasting Difficult to compare to recent vintages (which have all included at least some cabernet franc or petit verdot) this is less flamboyant than the 2006 and 2007, and will benefit from extended cellaring. The 2007 Lytton Estate Syrah/Grenache ** is also tight, almost light, almost too searing, with blue fruits and tons of tannin.

Speaking of the perfect gift what about wine. -
WINE TASTING GUY | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2008 Wines for the New (Jewish) Year UNDER $30 And two wines in their appellation series that are of interest are the Carmel "old vine" Carignan & the Carmel Petit Sirah. Staying with the theme of uncommon varietals is the Recanati Reserve Cabernet Franc. Those are: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Also from Galil Mt. -
WINE TASTING GUY | MONDAY, MAY 5, 2008 NorCal day 2: Sonoma Their 2004 cabernet which is actually a Bordeaux blend of 76% Cabernet, 18% merlot, 4% Petit Verdot & 2% cab franc. Although Ridge is known for their Zins they do make other very fine wines and we were started off with a Chardonnay and finished with a Cab/Merlot blend and finally a Petit Syrah. Great stuff! -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, MAY 4, 2008 Day in Napa then had a Rose' made from Cab Franc before moving on to the reds. The wines that stood out though were their Syrahs. enjoyed the 2003 Havens Syrah but mentioned to Connie that I thought the nose was a little closed. She proceeded to open a 2000 Syrah that they recently re-released and it was great. Nice wines. -

WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2008 Polaner tasting standouts Moving to the Rhone valley in France I tried some wines from Eric Texier. Next to Texier was Domaine Franck Peillot from the Bugey region of France (a place I had never previously heard of). wine I really loved and found quite unique was the 2005 Domaine de Roally Vire'-Clesse' from the Macconnais, France. don't know. -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 2008 Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines Merlot, Cab, Syrah - been there done that. lighter wine than a Cab, merlot or Syrah, Barbera is said to be the most (or second most) planter varietal in Italy. No, not the Petit Sirah/Zin blend - another people know is a favorite of mine. Rather it was a 2004 (I think) Recanati Reserve Cabernet Franc. Worth a shot! -
WINE TASTING GUY | TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2008 Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally) And finally the Peay 2005 "La Bruma" Estate Syrah, which I was told came from a very cool Syrah site, was also not a fruit bomb like some of the other Syrah's I tried. L&R are a winery that focuses on Cab Franc, a varietal I am NOT generally a big fan of. Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high. Great stuff. -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, JANUARY 6, 2008 Italian Wine tasting (Sicily) & Pizza No Cab Franc, Petit Verdot or even any Syrah (shiraz).
