    The Show is a big, rich, deep Cabernet, although according to the website there are also small quantities of Merlot for softness, Cabernet Franc for earthiness and acidity, and even Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot to give it a deep ruby color. all aged in French and American oak.     In 1952, Alexis Lichine, author of Guide to the Wines and Vineyards of France and On the Wine Routes of France, found the dilapidated vineyards (11 hectares) for sale for $18,000 and bought it, changing the name from Chateau Prieuré-Cantenac to Chateau Prieuré-Lichine. He is buried in a little knoll in the middle of the vineyard).

    Petit verdot showed very nicely in 2009. Increasing the petit verdot addition to 10% resulted in a significantly less interesting wine than the 5% addition. Likewise, an addition of cabernet franc did nothing for the wine. This is likely to become a second wine with some leftover petit verdot for substance.

    Their 2004 cabernet which is actually a Bordeaux blend of 76% Cabernet, 18% merlot, 4% Petit Verdot & 2% cab franc. Although Ridge is known for their Zins they do make other very fine wines and we were started off with a Chardonnay and finished with a Cab/Merlot blend and finally a Petit Syrah. Serious pretension.

    then had a Rose' made from Cab Franc before moving on to the reds. Following the Cab I had a Petit Sirah and finished with an old vine Zin PORT that I REALLY enjoyed. The Zin was blended with about 7-8% Petit Sirah & a touch (about 1%) of Cab. had a 2004 " The Sisters " Cab made with 8% Cab Franc. Nice wines.

    Moving to the Rhone valley in France I tried some wines from Eric Texier. Next to Texier was Domaine Franck Peillot from the Bugey region of France (a place I had never previously heard of). wine I really loved and found quite unique was the 2005 Domaine de Roally Vire'-Clesse' from the Macconnais, France. don't know.

    "Today's Bordeaux" tasting event
    The 2005 Heritage De Le Bosco from Saint Estephe made with 60% Merlot, 26% Cab Sauv, 10% Petit Verdot & 4% Cab Franc has a surprisingly lite & clear red color. The last wine I would like to mention is the 2005 Chateau Rigaud from Puisseguin-Saint Emillion made from 85% Merlot & 15% Cab Franc. On to the reds.

    Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines
    No, not the Petit Sirah/Zin blend - another people know is a favorite of mine. Rather it was a 2004 (I think) Recanati Reserve Cabernet Franc. am not typically a fan of Cab Franc as one of its typical aroma characteristics is a herbaceous green bell pepper aroma that doesn't do it for me. Well you want unusual, you got it!

    Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally)
    L&R are a winery that focuses on Cab Franc, a varietal I am NOT generally a big fan of. Cabernet Franc is known for having green bell pepper notes, and these green herbaceous notes simply do not jive with my palate. It had 84% Cab Franc, 14% Merlot & % Cab Sauv and was delicious. Great stuff. really enjoyed it.

    Alto Adige Wines Grand Tasting
    This blend of 20% Tannat (a grape originally from SW France), 30% Petit Verdot (a Bordeaux varietal) and 50% Lagrein was very nice. then was offered their "Amistar" Cabernet Franc 2005. Most Cabernet Francs that I have had, or even wines that have just a touch of Cab Franc in them, don't suit my taste.

    Cabernet sauvignon still predominates; exhaustive tasting of test blends during assemblage determines how much - if any - merlot, petit verdot, or cabernet franc will be included in the finished wine.
