It was a great opportunity to taste a lot of Jura wine and to think about and compare terroir and technique. | | | | | | | | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE FEBRUARY 26, 2010 Fondue Deetrane's parents have a condo in Chamonix, France, right near the border of Switzerland. It was my friend Deetrane's birthday the other night. | | | DR. VINO DECEMBER 9, 2009 Arretxea Irouleguy and Tissot Poulsard – geek out, winter or fall Here are two natural wines from France that have you covered. Tissot, Arbois, Poulsard, vielles vignes, Jura 2006 about $17. The weather is rapidly changing: one day, fall; the next day, snow! Arretxea, Irouleguy 2005 about $20. This hearty red pairs well with rich foods and cold weather. Although not big and boozy (only 12.5% | | | | | | | | | -
DR. VINO | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2011 Would you pay the master’s price for a local apprentice? ” It’s not likely since the grape that hails from the Jura region of France is pretty rare in California: Only 49 tons were >crushed last year (compare that to 400,000 tons of zinfandel; but since it fetched as much as $1,700 a ton vs an average of $442 for zinfandel, maybe the premium will attract future plantings). Over to Tim for photos and comments from his tasting some wines from the Jura and Alsace. This cool day in March featured a tasting of wines from the Jura and Alsace. DR. VINO | SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2011 A tasting of hipster wines Since we had tasted a Coenobium Rusticum previously, I decided to go with a wine from the Jura–the Montbourgeau 2008 L’Etoile Chardonnay ($20). Cabernet franc usually shows well for the uninitiated in warmer vintages and this one convinced most people while others found it to be green. “Will you wear a wool hat?,” MORE >> -
DR. VINO | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3, 2009 I can’t believe it’s not Albariño! from the University of Montpellier, spotted the vine thought to be Albariño and suggested that it was, in fact, the savagnin blanc grape often found in the Jura region of France (who in Australia will be the first to make it in an oxidative, vin juane style ?). But time is ticking as bottling time approaches. Any thoughts? MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 2008 By the Glass - Thierry Puzelat Edition The Puzelats grow Pinot Noir, Gamay, Côt (called Malbec in Argentina), Bréton (called Cabernet Franc in the film Sideways ), Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris (called Pinot Grigio in Italy), and the rarely seen Pineau D'Aunis and Menu Pineau (called Arbois in the Jura). They buzz with energy, some say "wildness." It works. MORE >>
