L&R are a winery that focuses on Cab Franc, a varietal I am NOT generally a big fan of. Cabernet Franc is known for having green bell pepper notes, and these green herbaceous notes simply do not jive with my palate. It had 84% Cab Franc, 14% Merlot & % Cab Sauv and was delicious. The word that comes to mind as you sip Antonin Guyon's 2002 Gevrey- Chambertin ** is searing. The 2002 Gevrey- Chambertin ** has evolved into a puckering villages level Burgundy, with piquant cherry notes and a texture like sharp stones. went for the Bubbles, the Beaujolais, the Cab Franc, and the Chenin Blanc. The Gevrey- Chambertin was also muscular but with higher toned fruit. The Gevrey- Chambertin 1er Cru Perrieres (about $125) was in my opinion the finest of the lineup with great depth and intensity to compliment the ripe fruit and the firm structure. MORE >>
