Ah, Bollinger … Established in 1829 in Ay, France, it’s almost impossible to know the magic of this incredible Champagne house until one has experienced a tour led by M. A few minutes later, we see some more experimental vines including Savignan, the grape from the Jura area, and Gamay. Outside Bollinger, we were met by M. dennis m.

    More Wines for Thanksgiving
The wines were from California, Italy, France and New Zealand. Maison Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages, 2009 France The grapes (Gamay) are gently crushed, an extended maceration of 12-20 days gets you the extraction of color and tannins, then aged in French oak for 8 to 10 months. Great deal at $10. Nice long layered finish.

Which reds would you cellar beyond Bordeaux?
Cabernet franc grown on limestone from a top grower in Chinon. Fleurie from the edge of Moulin-a-Vent, this is more pinot-like than gamay, structure and elegance over fruit and ebullience. And around $30 a bottle? would sign up for a case faster than I would a 375ml of 2010 Lafite–and I’d probably save money if I did.

gamay from Emile Heredia of Domaine de Montrieux in the Coteaux du Vendômois. As readers of Wine Politics may recall, an certain number of producers are so frustrated with the appellation system that they have gone outside it to make a quality wine in the lowly vin de table administrative category (sort of the jug wine of France).

    Foillard Fleurie
as in pie, as in franc de pied (French rootstock). This wine opened slowly, as Foillard's wines tend to do, the nose building to a crescendo of ripe Gamay fruit and flowers, wet stone underneath. I love Jean Foillard's wines. And I say this without even having tasted only half of the wines he makes. You know, 3.14 as in ?, Thank you.

2007 Claux Delorme Valençay , about $16, is a delicious blend of Malbec, Gamay, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir. I was very fortunate to be invited to dinner by JD Headrick , the philosophical and articulate wine importer based in North Carolina. Headrick's portfolio is small, but well selected. By the way, Rouge Tomate is really good.

The $12 natural gamay showdown: Lapierre vs Puzelat
Each of them made a reasonably priced gamay in the acclaimed 2009 vintage; I bought each for about $12 at Astor Wines and then tasted them head to head. The light red wine has that fun, fruitiness of gamay made with carbonic maceration while having enough structure to be more than simply thirst quenching.

Tasty American wine under $12: why so little of it? Industry replies, part I
All over France great wines are being produced, many different varieties but all growing in the region they should grow or do well. The home of Gamay is Beaujolais, the home of Pinot is Burgundy. In France, by law, yields are controlled. Over 30 of you had your say in the post from last week. 3) And so on…….

The Gamay grape is used primarily in the production of Beaujolais wines in France.
