    WILLM Riesling 2010 Reserve
    I feel a little guilty here by tasting a Riesling outside the New York Finger Lakes, but I thought it may be time to see what the rest of the world has to offer with what has become my favorite white wine. For now, I am still a Finger Lakes fan, but still may sneak in an Alsace. Recommended.

    I have often mentioned that my favorite white wine is Riesling, especially those from the New York Finger Lakes region.     Salmon Run Meritage 2008
    Seemed to be stuck on Finger Lakes white wines all summer. did pass on a few nice California reds though and stayed with the Finger Lakes and a Salmon Run Meritage 2008 ( $11 ), a blend of 54% Cabernet Franc, 39.5% New York Cheese and New York Wine, two great reasons to love New York and the Finger Lakes.

    In the first post (since deleted) I mentioned the fact that I was unable to attend last years Finger Lakes Riesling Festival and that the '09 Fest was a torrential down pour.     Hudson-Chatham Old Vines Baco Noir 2009
    In New York there are an estimated 590 acres of Baco Noir currently grown. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of the hardy red grape here in New York in the future. The old vines is made from Finger Lakes grapes grown on 60 year old gnarly vines on the Masson Place Vineyards, which I cannot find any info on.

    Still blistering hot and still uncorking some nice Finger Lakes wines to help deal with the heat and still dining on summer salads, but added some corn on the cob to change it up a notch, I guess. am just interested in the cold wine. lowered my white wine zone in the fridge from 49F to 43F to chill down the wine to deal with the heat.

    Damiani Wine Cellars Meritage 2008
    Last year I reviewed the Damiani Wine Cellars '07 Meritage and later picked that wine in a poll to win top honors at the New York Wine and Food Classics's annual competition. Aromas were still black cherry, some tobacco with some added dark plum and hints of new leather. The finish was very long, dry, with some pepper and anise.

Shirley and I started out a little late, but were able to taste some outstanding wines at five equally outstanding wineries along the southern east side of the Seneca Lake Trail and the west side of Keuka Lake.

    Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Heron Hill Eclipse 2004
    I have no idea what occurred between the early 1980's and present in the case of New York Finger Lakes red wines. Last year, on the Cayuga Wine Trail, I finally found a few very nice reds and this past year discovered a new Finger Lakes winery that is producing some very excellent reds, the Damiani Wine Cellars.

    Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Damiani Pinot Noir 2006
    mentioned in that other review that I am now a believer that New York can produce some outstanding reds. like my La Crema or Bethel Heights Pinot which are much deeper and began to think back to the wines that had turned me away from New York reds. was totally surprised that I found a NY red I really enjoyed.

    Finger Lakes wineries now number nearly 100, and one of the newest and most interesting is the tiny Damiani Wine Cellars (tel. 607/546-5557), in Hector on the east side of Seneca Lake. When I got home I noticed a clear corked bottle with the words Finger Lakes on the label (drats). This is one to watch. Or drink.”

    Local Lamb with Local Wine
    buy lamb from my farmers market, but when the market is out of season from January - March, my food coop carries lamb from Aberdeen Hill Farms in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. should have used a finger lakes white, but didn't have one. We decided to have a New York wine with our local lamb.

    WBW 27 - Icewine
    So far, fun, "meeting" new folks and checking out their blogs, learning, and in my case, tasting wine I have never tried. So I instead visited Vintage New York , a wine store that allows you to taste 5 wines for $10. The Kitchen Chick is our host this month and she loves Icewine! lingering finish of sweet pineapple.

    Some New York Wines
    So now I know that Long Island makes serious wine.what about the rest of New York? keep hearing about the finger lakes and their riesling. Vintage is a wine store that sells only New York wines, and also some fancy foods. He sort of occupies a "McDonalds of the Finger Lakes" spot in my wine psyche.

    Home made pasta and a Finger Lakes Cab
    The wine was From the Finger Lakes region of New York State. My wife and I spent our one-year anniversary in April on Lake Seneca and hit some wineries while we were there. Last night I got out the Kitchen aide mixer and the pasta maker attachment and went at it. What a great way to make gourmet on the cheap.
