NOVEMBER 23, 2012 [El Dorado] Scholium Project "Riquewihr" Lost Slough Vineyard 2010
At the El Dorado in Sonoma. From 500ml. Looks unfiltered? Candy aromas, but mostly closed. Full palate, with sweet notes, tight and sweet with chili spice, quince, and candied stone fruits on the short finish. This is a wine to pull me out of my post Thanksgiving day stupor

JANUARY 10, 2010 [El Dorado] Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Black Label Claret 2007
Grapes from Napa, Sonoma and El Dorado make up this Claret (or English Bordeaux) blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot, 4% Malbec and 3% Cabernet Franc. Aged 16 months in French oak, oozing aromas of licorice, and vanilla, with an almost perfect contrast of flavors showing dark chocolate, strawberries, roasted coffee, chalk or white pepper, ripe sour cherries and prunes. A very generous finish displays itself via a robust rich texture and silky tannins.

AUGUST 7, 2009 [El Dorado] California Fool Moons: ours and Jupiter's
A dog crunched a gopher in El Dorado. The moon has been extravagant. I hear my host's cat left her a present of some mouse kidneys, I was lucky to be looking in another direction. Chickens talked at night. It must have been the moon. But that moon, so fine, so clear, I could see the footprints from 40 years ago as I stared up, past Jupiter. And it was hard to go past Jupiter. Giant. Courtly. Imposing. Hurting from its recent wound.
