I''m going to start by saying that spending one day at the annual Finger Lakes Wine Festival is not enough. I still have not had an opportunity to spend the entire three days at the Glen, but on the other hand, I may just not have the space for all the wine I would be bringing home.

A friend who is visiting her family in Italy sent an email to me yesterday: "Hey, look what I found in my grandpa''s closet. kept for 40-50 years there like this. Standing, no temperature control, forget about humidity. What a pity!" Yup, those wines are from the 1950''s and 60''s.

Jolie-Laide, a micro-wine label by Scott Schultz, has attracted out-sized attention for what’s in the bottles: Trousseau Gris, Pinot Gris, and Syrah, all from single-vineyards in California. But with the current vintage, the outside of the bottles have also been turning heads since the labels depict nude line drawings. Schultz says he varies the labels of the Jolie-Laide (translated as “pretty-ugly”) wines every year. Last year, a calligrapher designed the labels. MORE >>

Deep red colors in the glass, rich, powerful and full bodied, spicy and herbal aromas with super ripe red berries on the palate along with wood and smoke. Good deep tannins and a wonderful balance.
