JUNE 12, 2012 Things Change, Things Stay the Same
Not long ago I was at one of those dinners with maybe 10 people at the table and everyone brings at least two very good bottles of wine, and when it was all said and done I felt like I didn't really get to spend enough time with any of the wines. One of the wines was a real surprise, the 1991 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Seven Springs Vineyard.

JUNE 13, 2012 100th Anniversary at d’Arenberg Winery
" Ask her why d'Arenberg has such wacky names for their wines!" I asked a friend, seated with me at a dinner celebrating d'Arenberg's 100th year anniversary. The reason I had to ask the friend was because I had laryngitis and could not speak over a whisper. "I I can't ask her that!"

JUNE 11, 2012 Carta Vieja Chardonnay 2011 Chile
Tropical fruity aromas of banana taffy, confectioners sugar, and summer fruits, while on the palate leaning more towards a Sauvignon Blanc than a Chardonnay, but that's a good thing if you ask me. Has good texture and balance and satisfies nicely with fresh peach on the finish.

| TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 2012
Mike Steinberger writes a nuanced, 5,000-word piece on Rudy Kurniawan and wine counterfeiting on VanityFair.com. WHY WINE BLOG Judgement On My Patio
| WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13, 2012
The last holiday weekend, a good friend and I indulged ourselves in a few bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon, along with a couple of grilled steaks. We actually opened four Cab/Sauvs. Two were from South America and two were from the Calistoga region in the Napa Valley. We both agreed that the South American wines were completely out classed by the Napa Valley wines. We also had to note that the CA wines sold for an average price of $90 and $50 while the S.A. wines were both under $20. MORE >>
A WINE STORY Tapestry of Terroir: Chilean Terroir Master Class with Fred Dexheimer
| WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13, 2012
Fred Dexheimer rocked as the presenter for a Chilean Terroir Master class earlier this week. In his presentation, the audience tasted three flights of wine -- a flight of 3 Sauvignon Blancs, 3 Syrahs, and 4 Carmeneres from different areas of the country (different climates, and different types of soil). Dexheimer is truly a Chilean expert and really makes Chile a fascinating subject. The end result? Review my notes and try the wines again at home so I can reinforce the lesson in terroir! MORE >>
