JUNE 7, 2011 HOW TO: cut a wine bottle and save $249
I got a catalogue in the mail the other day from something called Napa Style. I don’t know if it’s 100% from Napa or just sort of a Fred Franzia Napa style. But they had the item shown above listed as “big bottle wine hurricanes.

JUNE 4, 2011 Coming Clean
I began writing this blog in September of 2006 and although some things about the way I write the blog have changed, some things have remained constant throughout. I try to write about what I'm learning and experiencing, and why it is important to me.

JUNE 6, 2011 Sheldrake Point Dry Riesling 2009
Been on a Finger Lakes Riesling kick lately and can't seem to allow myself to open anything but Finger Lakes Riesling. I am going to have to put a few away for the hot, sweltery days of summer, but before I do, just one more to satisfy what may becoming an addiction. This past weekend, I opened my lone bottle of Sheldrake Point dry Riesling 2009 ( $15 ). This was after work with a snack of medium hot Salsa and Tortilla chips.
DR. VINO Vintage 2011: wacky wine weather
| MONDAY, JUNE 6, 2011
Weather: it’s what you discuss in elevators or with the in-laws. But if you’re a winemaker or even a wine consumer, it can actually be pretty important. | TUESDAY, JUNE 7, 2011
There are still boxes and bags cluttering the new apartment, I haven't really unpacked yet. I worked until it reached a livable state, and then I paused, settled in a little. I went to the farmer's market, I cooked dinner. I love the vegetables at the market this time of year. Lettuces, some bitter greens like escarole, garlic scapes, asparagus, now there are shell peas. My daughters have become quite proficient at shelling peas, even the 2 and a half year old. MORE >>

A WINE STORY Tasting Notes week of June 10, 2011
| FRIDAY, JUNE 10, 2011
Today I received three bottles of Pinot Grigio, all at different price points, from Northern Italy. I think that this shipment is interesting because Pinot Grigio is one of the most popular wines in the world. In fact, I've heard sommeliers say people walk into restaurants and just demand a bottle of PG no matter what they are having. MORE >>
DR. VINO What women don’t want: perfume shaped wine bottles!
| WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8, 2011
I’m going out on a limb here and say that women don’t really want their wine in perfume-shaped wine bottles. But that’s just what the grappa distillery Mazzetti d’Altavilla is making with their new “Essentia Vitae. Here’s what someone who hailed it as the packaging innovation of the week had to say. While perfume-inspired wine may be an acquired taste, Essentia Vitae goes further than most to connect to female consumers. MORE >>
