Ok, for some reason I may have missed this in Geography class. Clairette and Ugni blanc have become the dominate grape varieties with some smaller plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Mouvedre and Syrah. Wine from Algeria! Who would'a thunk. Our server today was Joe and his presentation of the wines was all class. Especially noted were the 2003 Pinot Noir reserve, the 2005 Cabernet Franc reserve and the 2005 Merlot reserve. We did not taste the Merlot or the Lemberger, but were amazed with the Gruner Veltliner and the Pinot Noir. Although I have tasted some awful good Cab Francs since, that one is still my favorite and may be the wine that finally convinced me that the Finger Lakes region is capable of producing some world class red wines.
