Today at the Winebow portfolio tasting I had the good fortune to meet Jean-Michel Chartron, owner and winemaker of Domaine Jean Chartron in Puligny-Montrachet. Even a simple Rully Montmorin 2008 was juicy and delicious, yet I especially liked the Chassagne Montrachet Cailleret 2008. MORE >>

Griotte-Chambertin, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, Les Cras in Chambolle - it's all from the same word. That's not a good way to taste. On Le Montrachet - "There is no acid, there is low alcohol, yet Montrachet ages forever. Montrachet doesn't need these things, that's just the way it is." The beautiful thing about going to the Martin Scott Portfolio Tasting, for me, is that I get to taste Burgundy wines that I have never before tasted, and that in all likelihood I will not taste again unless I go next year. 1991 Remoissenet Pere et Fils Batard Montrachet Grand Cru - Smells of wood and banana, some barnyard elements. 1997 Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Caillerets 1er Cru - incredible (as in odd, not as in amazing) nose of marzipan, cake, and toast. think something is lost in trying to taste everything.
