This past week the Long Island Wine Council sponsored a seminar and blind tasting of its wines to compare them with others from international regions. So, here we go. | SLAKED APRIL 17, 2009 My Beach Party Animal Sauvignon I tasted the 2007 Shinn Estate Vineyards Coalescence ** blind, and I thought it was Sancerre, but with more citrus. resounding success for a Long Island wine. WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2008 Polaner tasting standouts began in a French table area and tried some Sancerres (made from Sauvignon Blanc), some white Burgundys (made from Chardonnay) and some white blends. The Sancerre's of Gerard Boulay were generally very nice. Made from Chardonnay, this wine had an exploding bouquet. don't know. great wine. Onto the reds. MORE >> -

It was a 1992 Savennieres from a producer whose name I cannot remember now, but I tried it because it seemed like a good opportunity to taste an older Chenin Blanc without breaking the bank - $27 for the bottle. Both made from Chenin Blanc, they can be bone dry, off dry (called demi-sec on the label), or sweet (called moelleux on the label). MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2008 Jenny & Francois Portfolio Tasting Here are some notes (including some I didn't like): Sparkling NV Lassaigne Brut Blanc de Blancs - yup, still delicious. 2007 Haut la Vigne Côtes de Duras - 50-50 chardonnay and semillon. 2006 Sebastien Riffault Sancerre Akméniné - huh? Finding a balanced Sauvignon Blanc is not easy, something that doesn't smack me with grassy cat-pee aromas, something that compliments food. Whites, like reds in Cheverny, must be blended. MORE >> -
