SLAKED | FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2009 My Beach Party Animal Sauvignon I tasted the 2007 Shinn Estate Vineyards Coalescence ** blind, and I thought it was Sancerre, but with more citrus. resounding success for a Long Island wine. WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2008 Polaner tasting standouts began in a French table area and tried some Sancerres (made from Sauvignon Blanc), some white Burgundys (made from Chardonnay) and some white blends. The Sancerre's of Gerard Boulay were generally very nice. He wants his wines to show a nice purity of fruit ( Chardonnay) and as such uses large 600 liter (mostly neutral) barrels. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2006 A Bubbly Surprise! have yet to really explore the sauvignon blanc wines of Sancerre or Pouilly Fume (although I have tried a few of the more reasonably priced sauv blancs from Menetou Salon and Quincy). This champy is a grand cru wine made only from chardonnay, and it was described as light and elegant. These wines can age for decades. LOVED it. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2008 Jenny & Francois Portfolio Tasting 2007 Haut la Vigne Côtes de Duras - 50-50 chardonnay and semillon. 2006 Sebastien Riffault Sancerre Akméniné - huh? If I wanted Sancerre and got this I would return the bottle. Is that because the natural versions exhibit the true flavors and aromas of carignan, for example? Maybe it's just odd wine making. Sancerre and Pouilly Fume are the big shots for Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley, but great wines hail from appellations like Menetou Salon, Quincy, Touraine, and tiny Cheverny, and at about half the price.
