SLAKED | SUNDAY, MAY 24, 2009 1988 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello From 95% cabernet sauvignon, with 3% merlot and 2% petit verdot.makes me think they should add 2% petit verdot to the final blend of the 2008, in an attempt to recreate the longevity of the sweetness here. This wine put the 1989 to shame. Oppulently opaque, but this is most likely mature. Still delicious. underneath. MORE >> -
SLAKED | WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2009 2008 Monte Bello Futures Tasting Difficult to compare to recent vintages (which have all included at least some cabernet franc or petit verdot) this is less flamboyant than the 2006 and 2007, and will benefit from extended cellaring. This chardonnay, like Eric's previous two vintages, is impossible to resist. There is no short answer. All are superb. MORE >> -

WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2008 Carmel's quality wine revolution recently checked out some of their unique single varietal appellation wines (Carignan & Petite Sirah) and was so (surprisingly) impressed by their quality that I included them in a blog post with some recommendations. My favorites of the day were still the appellation Carignan and Petite Sirah. And taste I did. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | MONDAY, MAY 5, 2008 NorCal day 2: Sonoma started with a white blend of 50% Semillon & 50% chardonnay that I really enjoyed. There were only 2 wines, a Chardonnay and a bordeaux blend. The 2006 Chardonnay spends 3 months "Sue Lie" (on its lees or mixture of yeast cells, grape pulp, etc), gets filtered, and then goes back into the French oak barrels for another 7-8 months. MORE >>
