Tyler wines and Chateau Your Name
tasted a few of them recently at a trade tasting and was impressed with the lean, taut wines from a land known all too often for buxom chardonnay and pinot noir. The wines of Tyler winery get a thumbs up from me for the brilliance of the name alone–but also for what’s inside the bottle. Rita Hills.) Tyler winery.

Bodega DiamAndes Comes to New York
We begin by tasting the 2010 Chardonnay, which is barrel fermented in 100% French oak, 40% of it new. The wine is rich and luscious, with medium acidity and a long Meursault like finish of melted butter. "Welcome," says Antoine Blech of Opia restaurant in Manhattan, welcoming Jean-Jacques Bonnie of Bodega DiamAndes and his contingent.

    My Dinner with Comtes Lafon
For one, the wines command very high prices, particularly wines from the top vineyards in Meursault and of course, the Montrachet (one of those wines you'll never see on a shelf - perhaps in a restaurant or at auction, and I imagine we are into 4-digit price territory). think of hazelnut flavors and an oily texture when I think of Meursault.

We are actually at Daniel Boulud's DB Bistro on a sunny June day, and Michael is here to talk about the winery's excellent Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. taste three vintages of Chardonnay (09, 08, 07) and am struck by the Meursault character of the 07 - it is very Burgundian with melted butter on the nose, and incredible elegance.

Tasting with Jim Collins of Frei Brothers
The 2009 Russian River Valley Chardonnay was very Meursault-like with its aroma of melted butter, a touch of sweet oak, and very textured mouthfeel. Jim Collins. As you may know, coastal regions in California are considered 'cool climate,' and 'cool climate' wines are premium quality. Salute!

Sunday Lunch for the Ages - A Guided Tour of the Early Days of Rosenthal Wine Merchant
This is because the wine is from a place that actually favors and specializes in Pinot Noir, not Chardonnay. We drank three mature white Burgundy wines, one from Meursault, one from Puligny, and one Corton-Charlemagne. This past weekend I participated in one of the greatest wine events of my life. This was not a business lunch.

A Visit to Domaine Langoureau during Hospices De Beaune Weekend 2010
It does not look like the“chateau&# etched onto label of the typical Chardonnay bottle. 2009 1er Cru Le Garenne had a tangy fruit element and high acidity, with the 2009 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru Le Piece sur La Bois very full flavored with an expressive nose. As Jeanne-Marie drives toward the Chateau, I am a bit surprised.

How to Train Yourself to Memorize Varietal Characteristics
And since Chardonnay is such a popular grape, and Burgundy, France, such a respected region, you decide to go in this direction. Yet as your eyes scan the enormous wine list, you see the various regions: Chablis, Meursault, and Puligny-Montrachet (and dozens of others). The darker color of the barrel aged Meursault was the best tip.

Wine of the Week - 2007 Thierry et Pascale Matrot Bourgogne
You would know instantly that this is a Burgundy Chardonnay if it were served to you blind - it is that clean and true. The nose has great freshness, the citrus and Chardonnay fruit ripe and detailed, and saturated with stony minerals. This is focused, ultra-pure and clean Burgundy Chardonnay, lean, but balanced and delicious.

Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Clos Du Bois Calcaire 2006
I am just going to begin by saying the Clos Du Bois Calcaire 2006 is probably the best Chardonnay I have ever had. Now I'll qualify that statement by saying I do not do white wine that often and that over the years have had probably less or near 100 different Chardonnays and that is really not that many. Drink now through 2011."

    Overachievers and Underachievers
Overachievers: 1999 Domaine Leroy Meursault - Tough to get a handle on, but with time to re-taste and to think about the wine, it kind of blew me away. Is there a finer drinking villages Meursault right now? Last week I had the opportunity to drink some pretty fancy wine. High expectations can color things. But you get my point.

Chardonnay Series: An Intermezzo with Ted Lemon
His own technique was informed by Burgundy (having made wine at Guy Roulot's in Meursault) but there is no doubt that he is making wine in California and that is exactly the land he is trying to express through his bottles, and one of those grapes that he is giving voice to is Chardonnay. But the most demanding one is Chardonnay.

2005 Jean Manciat Mâcon-Charnay Vieilles Vignes
This is a brilliant white wine, a Chardonnay that could go toe to toe with some from the far more famous and expensive Côte d'Or, the home of the Montrachets and of Meursault. Wine Blogging Wednesday is upon us again, installment # 39, and the theme is Silver Burgundy , or the wines of the Côte Chalonnaise or the Mâconnais.

    WBW # 39 Announced - Silver Burgundy
I think of endlessly beguiling and beautiful Pinot Noir, and also of Chardonnay - crystalline, tense, and rich. think of Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romaneé, Gevrey-Chambertin, and the storied villages of the Côte de Nuits, and also of Puligny, Meursault, Volnay, and the other superstars of the Côte de Beaune. Is this even possible?

So this month's theme is Naked Chardonnay , or un-oaked Chardonnay. From the late '80s through the late '90s ( all dates are approximate , and cannot be confirmed ) Chardonnay was generic swill that the masses got when ordering white wine. Just give me a Chardonnay. So why naked or un-oaked Chardonnay? Many more.

recently discovered a Napa Valley Chardonnay that I really like. So on a recent very hot Friday night I go down to his basement and open the fridge, imagining sipping a yummy and cool Chardonnay. He has a lovely looking 2002 1er Cru Meursault Les Charmes, but again, I don't feel quite right cracking open Deetrane's fancy wine.

Burgundy Trip Continued: Domaine Jean-Philippe Fichet
We drove with Jeanne Marie to Meursault on a Tuesday morning to visit Domaine Fichet. The Meursault wines were much more focused in their flavors. Compared to the Meursault Les Chevalieres, it was fat sweet fruit all over the place. When we learned that we would be visiting Domaines famous for white wine, we were excited.
