As to the wines I started with the 2006 Chardonnay that only sees 5% new oak & is put through no malolactic fermentation. It was a nice Chardonnay and for the price ($28 suggested) a nice buy relative to some of the other $50+ Napa Chards. Chardonnay (that sells for about $70!) | WINE TASTING GUY MARCH 25, 2008 Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally) Definitely one I'll be on the lookout for! enjoyed a nice Pinot Gris & Chardonnay of theirs. For four glorious months I took barrel samples from Downing barrels and brought them back to the lab for analysis. I've mentioned this event twice and have promised to write a more comprehensive review. Great stuff. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 2007 Notes From the Dressner Real Wine Attack Tasting Also, the vignerons poured not only their entry level wines, but their top wines, and this provided the opportunity to taste a $62 Cote Rotie without actually buying it, which is much appreciated if you are in my tax bracket and you want to sample the wares before investing. Definitely a $15 beauty. hauled my butt into Manhattan (!) MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2007 San Diego Trip Food and Wine Hafner Cabernet and Chardonnay are house wines at pop-in-law's. Part wine bar, part brasserie, part chic bar hangout, this place is definitely on our go-to list from now on. We sampled a nice Gruner Veltliner with the custard, a rosé from Provence with a classic salad of frisee with a poached egg and lardons. The nervy acidity? MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2007 Sauvignon Blanc - a Mini Blind Tasting Could be our small sample, but this reiterated for me that France continues to make some of the finest under $15 wine in the world. This one, like all Cheverny, is actually a blend, with about 10% Chardonnay in the mix. It lacked the focus and definition that I found in the Loire wines, but it was very good, and I think a good value. MORE >> -
