Georges 1er Cru (a red Burgundy for those who don't have a masters in wine labeling) had some nice cherry and forest berry on the nose, together with some minerality & earthiness. Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high. | | | | | | | | | -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 2007 Notes From the Dressner Real Wine Attack Tasting Texier charge $95 for this bottle and label it Condrieu? 2005 Jean Manciat Macon Vieille Vignes , price unknown (about $30) - old vine Chardonnay from the Maconnais, a Burgundian region known for value whites. Definitely a $15 beauty. hauled my butt into Manhattan (!) Packed already, and only 1:10 PM. Impossible in this venue. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2007 Dinner with the In-Laws LOVED it, and will definitely investigate Zind Humbrecht further. The label indicates that this wine is a "2" out of 5 on the sweetness index, and this honeyed and floral residual sugar carried through on the long and elegant finish. This is a late harvest blend of mostly Chardonnay (65-70% I think), Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 2008 Friday Night Bubbles got another bottle a few months later when I saw it at a good price, but this last bottle was part of a more recent shipment - same label, but a new combination of grapes. Lallement sadly does not include the disgorgement date on the back label, and I didn't bother marking which wine was which. Not the case with grower Champagne. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 2008 Friday Night Bubbles I've tasted and enjoyed their Brut Tradition wine before, a blend of about 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. The wine in this bottle spent 3 years on the lees and was disgorged in July of 2006, according the very helpful back label. NV Egly-Ouriet Brut "Les Vignes de Vrigny ," $46, Michael Skurnik Wines. Glad I did, too. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2008 Non-Dosage Champagne Still wine is made from one of or some combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and possibly but very rarely Pinot Blanc and the obscure Arbane and Petit Meslier. It's easy to pick out non-dosage Champagne because it is usually named Brut Zero or Brut Natural, and the words "Non-dosage" might appear on the label somewhere. MORE >>
