BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 2009 Selecting Wine for Myself Alone looked through our little cellar, considered a fancy Chablis, flirted with a great bottle of Champagne, and toyed with the idea of an Equipo Navazos Sherry. Because there are many great wines to be had in the $12-30 range, from many wine regions, and also because I think Sauvignon Blanc can be a great late summer and fall food wine. Everyone brought one bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, we bagged 'em, tagged 'em, and tasted 'em. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2007 WBW 37 - Indigenous Grape Varieties love French wine, but the good doctor ruled out what he called "the big six grapes" from France, namely Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir. Chenin Blanc is, in my opinion, the superstar white grape of the Loire Valley. And Chenin Blanc tends to age well, so let's see. -
EAST VILLAGE WINE GEEK | MONDAY, AUGUST 13, 2007 Delivery, Pinot.Love it! dipped into the "cellar" and found yet another Cali wine from our trip. If you have been reading this blog for a while you might remember my posts on their sauvignon blanc and their syrah (the syrah is my wife's fav). Last night my wife and I were celebrating for celebration's sake. Actually I just downright love them. Cheers -
EAST VILLAGE WINE GEEK | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20, 2007 Huia, Cookin' In The Bones and Tuesday: A Continuing Saga As my hands took over my mind said sianara and floated down the block into my building, up five flights of stairs, entered my pad and went straight into my "wine cellar." Mostly reds in the "cellar." And my first thought was do I really have that bottle in the "cellar" or did my wife and I drink it in the park? White! Cheers -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2007 Brooklyn Uncorked: A Tasting of Long Island Wines started out by following Lenn around, took his guided tour of Long Island whites, tasting many a Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. learned, though, that I am not a fan of the Long Island style of Sauvignon Blanc, which based on the wines I sampled at this tasting, is super pungeant, o'er brimming with cat pee aromas. Yummy. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, MAY 21, 2007 Wine Blogger's Gameshow Used a nose dropper to take a sample of the Touraine Sauvignon Blanc we had with lunch, took home in a small vial, "for testing," he said. Glared at Lieb Cellars pourer somewhat threateningly until she produced an unlabeled bottle of 2006 Sauvignon Blanc for us to taste. Good humored, relaxed, excellent company. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 2007 Okay, Now for My Case Sancerre, the darling of wine bars everywhere a few years ago, is made from Sauvignon Blanc. Many producers say that demi-sec (off dry) is the best expression of Chenin Blanc. They make many wines, some for drinking young, some for cellaring, like this one from the great Perrieres vineyard in Bourgueil. And $17 - c'mon. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2007 A Tasting of Young Loire Reds My beloved Pinot Noir is the one in little known Menetou-Salon, which has generated more attention for its whites made from Sauvignon Blanc than it has for reds. They use Malbec, Gamay, and even Cabernet Sauvignon in Muscadet, Anjou, and Saumur. And at a fraction of the price. Usually kind of grippy with astringent tannins. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2007 Dinner with the In-Laws It gets mostly excellent reviews from the community on Cellar Tracker, and one of the reviews said that it needs time to open up. But almost 3 hours later (thank you Cellar Tracker reviewers), by the time we sat down to our dinner, the nasty smells had completely blown off. How about something elegant and festive in a white wine? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2006 A Hidden Gem Cheverny wines are a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, with the Sauvignon Blanc the primary grape at about 70%. Like the great Chenin Blanc grape, also a daughter of the Loire Valley, Romorantin might show best in its demi-sec (off-dry) form. You should try them, honestly. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2006 2005 Vouvrays Have Arrived The entire back wall is devoted to Loire whites, including many differe t chenin blancs from Savennieres, Vouvray, and somethimes the lesser known Montlouis sur Loire, Coteaux du Loir and Jasnieres. We checked out the dark and dank cellar where hundreds.thousands (?) We then toured the facilities. of old Baudry bottles are sleeping. -
EAST VILLAGE WINE GEEK | MONDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2006 Stemless Espana and Ham on a Harness If anyone knows of one or has any ideas let me know) if you like sauvignon blanc, you will like this. This place just had a temperature controlled hand cellar behind the bar. El alimento. El vino. El ambience. Lo amo! That is how I feel about this new wine bar here in the East Village. Bar Carrera. Oh yeah. Pretty cool. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2006 Some New York Wines Their unoaked 2005 Estate Sauvignon Blanc was fresh and lively. don't know if this is a good value because I don't have a riesling context yet, but I sure loved the wine, and I grabbed 2 bottles of it for the cellar. In August my wife and I took a short trip to the North Fork of Long Island to explore and to taste some wine. | |
