The Verticles at La Paulee – Focus on Jean-Marc Roulot
liked the 05 the best, it was very Meursault-like, rich and fabulous, and the 08 more than the 07. Jean-Marc practices organic farming; in the cellar he uses 15% new oak, mainly from the Allier forest, which integrates seamlessly into the wines’ silken, perfectly harmonious structures. Africa looking like that!). More soon.

    My Dinner with Comtes Lafon
For one, the wines command very high prices, particularly wines from the top vineyards in Meursault and of course, the Montrachet (one of those wines you'll never see on a shelf - perhaps in a restaurant or at auction, and I imagine we are into 4-digit price territory). think of hazelnut flavors and an oily texture when I think of Meursault.

Assessing risk and reward in white Burgundy
One factor is that the wines are quite expensive, almost calling out for cellaring; bright, fresh acidity can be found much less money with Bourgogne blanc (or Chablis), for example. Francois et Antoine Jobard, Meursault, “En la Barre,” 2002 : only slightly oxidized, but still too tired at this young an age. follows after the jump.

Sunday Lunch for the Ages - A Guided Tour of the Early Days of Rosenthal Wine Merchant
Old vintages, stored undisturbed in Neal's underground cellar. To an oasis of perfectly cellared wine and delicious wholesome food. We drank three mature white Burgundy wines, one from Meursault, one from Puligny, and one Corton-Charlemagne. This past weekend I participated in one of the greatest wine events of my life.

    Burgundy Wine Club
The goal is eventually to have dinner together twice a year, but we need to build our cellar in order to do that, so we meet once a year for now. Buying newly released wine for the cellar is the easy part. don't hear Corton-Charlemagne mentioned in the same breath as Puligny, Chassagne, or Meursault in terms of quality. Corked!

Visting Domaine Lafouge Jean et Gilles
Like Sylvani Langoureau, Gilles Lafouge (the son) has his cellar, and a vat room, in his own middle class house located in a typical Burgundy neighborhood. Next, a Meursault with incredible texture and minerality. jean gilles standing with Jeanne Marie de Champs. screw. You can find his wines in the United States using wine-searcher.

A Visit to Domaine Langoureau during Hospices De Beaune Weekend 2010
No Coats Needed in the Cellar. As we step down to his cellar, I put on my coat, expecting a freezing cellar, as the sky is already cold and grey. Yet the cellar is actually somewhat shallow (perhaps this has something to do with the water tables in the area). Langoureau and is very dedicated to producing excellent wine.

A Conversation with Neal Rosenthal - Part 2
Neal showed me his root cellar, where he grabbed a bunch of his potatoes for our lunch. He opened a bottle of wine for us to share, the 2005 François Gaunoux Meursault 1er Cru La Goutte D'Or. More conversation with Neal Rosenthal: Finished with our tour of the grounds, we went inside the house for a look around. BG: Nice! BG: Yup.

    Belated Valentini
They rarely allow any one in the cellars and they won't talk technique. few weeks back I had a 2000 Trebbiano which had the lees stirred into a souffle--Meursault-like, and I was like, hey guys, what gives? This was a mini-media tour of the wines, a rare chance to taste a vertical. But, who knows. Limpid. Nutty. More ginger!

    Visiting Valpolicella & Friuli
The same is true in the cellar, where visitors can see all formats of barrels and all types and ages of wood, including cherrywood which Gian says is excellent for producing a long-lived wine from the Corvina grape as it accents the wine’s natural cherry flavors and softens the harsh youthful tannins. And New York? Day 2.

How to Train Yourself to Memorize Varietal Characteristics
Yet as your eyes scan the enormous wine list, you see the various regions: Chablis, Meursault, and Puligny-Montrachet (and dozens of others). 2007 Philippe Chavy Meursault & 2007 Philippe Chavy Meursault (from the village of Narvaux). The darker color of the barrel aged Meursault was the best tip.

Natural wines, premox, chenin blanc, 07 Port and Rhone – John Gilman
John Gilman, author of the newsletter The View from the Cellar , joins us again for a Q&A. But being younger than the gentleman I just mentioned, I do not have the same reserves of old vintages of white Burgundy or white Bordeaux in my cellar, and so premox has really hit my collection hard. Are these wines forcibly better?

Wine of the Week - 2007 Thierry et Pascale Matrot Bourgogne
The estate is located in Meursault, and there are over 5 hectares of Meursault villages classified vines, the estates largest holding. Matrot is not inflexible, though, when it comes to work in the cellar. The Bourgogne Blanc comes from vines that average 30 years old right outside of Meursault.

In one session we tasted Meursault, 21 wines from the 2007 vintage. There were also some reds from the Côte de Beaune during that session, but really it was about 2007 Meursault. Wines are served blind - you know it is a 2007 Meursault, or perhaps a 2007 Meursault 1er Cru, but that's it. participated in two of them.

Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Clos Du Bois Calcaire 2006
Although ready to drink now, the vibrant acidity of this wine will reward additional cellar aging. have always enjoyed the French Meursault and some Pouilly Fuisse, but the Clos Du Bois Calcaire is now on top of my Chardonnay list. Made me feel good, I don't win that often. The wine list offered about nine different Chards.

    Overachievers and Underachievers
Overachievers: 1999 Domaine Leroy Meursault - Tough to get a handle on, but with time to re-taste and to think about the wine, it kind of blew me away. Is there a finer drinking villages Meursault right now? I'd take a half case for the cellar and re-visit in 5 years. High expectations can color things. But you get my point.

    Wine of the Week
want to give her great wines, wines that will improve with 19 years of cellaring. wish I had the financial means to fill this case with things like Dujac Clos de la Roche, Pierre Morey Meursault Perrieres, and other wines that are some of the world's finest versions of their type. And happily, I can afford to buy and drink them.

    Domaine Pierre Morey, Meursault
We tasted through a large range of 2007 wines from Meursault, each with its own distinct personality. Peter, Tista, and Pierre Morey walking in Meursault. We began in the cellars of Morey-Blanc, tasting through the lineup of reds. Pierre Morey in his cellar. The Meursault 1er Crus. And we were thrilled and awed.

Alice Feiring - In Vino Veritas
As we went into her cellar to collect some 13-year -old Beaujolais, she explained her enthusiasm, “Maybe it’s that I always had a spot for the under dog, but that’s not the whole story. Something about the ginger and delicacy in the wine reminded me of an older red Meursault. She asked. Shall we have some?” really do love them.” Spicy.

    Tasting Other Blogger's Recommendations
After all, $25 buys less than half a bottle of most 2005 village wines from Puligny or Meursault. And I loved the wine enough to buy both a second bottle AND a bottle of the 2000 vintage wine for the cellar. Bloggers and blog readers recommend wines constantly and it's impossible to try all of them. Very pure and fresh. So sue me

Silver Burgundy Roudup - WBW #39
In this post you can see photos of the cellar, the producer petting his cat, the producer looking like Vincent Price, and most importantly, an amazing photo where you can literally see the difference between organically and non-organically farmed vineyards. Whoops - this wine turns out to be made from vines near Meursault. hear that.

2005 Jean Manciat Mâcon-Charnay Vieilles Vignes
This is a brilliant white wine, a Chardonnay that could go toe to toe with some from the far more famous and expensive Côte d'Or, the home of the Montrachets and of Meursault. Wine Blogging Wednesday is upon us again, installment # 39, and the theme is Silver Burgundy , or the wines of the Côte Chalonnaise or the Mâconnais.

    WBW # 39 Announced - Silver Burgundy
think of Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romaneé, Gevrey-Chambertin, and the storied villages of the Côte de Nuits, and also of Puligny, Meursault, Volnay, and the other superstars of the Côte de Beaune. There are a few in my cellar, and I agonize over opening them because they are so special and so dear in price. Is this even possible?

He has a lovely looking 2002 1er Cru Meursault Les Charmes, but again, I don't feel quite right cracking open Deetrane's fancy wine. know, sounds odd, right? Why, yes it is. Was I ever wrong!

Burgundy Trip Continued: Domaine Jean-Philippe Fichet
We drove with Jeanne Marie to Meursault on a Tuesday morning to visit Domaine Fichet. We walked through a cellar where the 2006 wines were adjusting to new life in barrels, and into a larger cellar with both barrels and big red steel tanks. The Meursault wines were much more focused in their flavors.

A Great Tasting at Moillard Grivot
When you walk in you can go downstairs to a monumental cellar and walk through aisles upon aisles of barrels and bottles. And a sign said that only 10% of their wine is cellared in that facility. Our tasting notes: 2005 Moillard Grivot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes , E29. And you don't need an appointment. Well balanced, young.
