SLAKED | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2009 Tablas Creek Sent Me This Hat, And You Should Too So I opened the 2006 Tablas Creek Grenache (mmmmm, grenache.) when he said this would cellar for 10 years. This summer, I not only took a vacation from work, but from Slaked! as well. Vacation is one of those things I don't do enough. It's hard to get right. More to the point, I have not been on total vacation. Mostly, not. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12, 2009 Tomatoes Provençal (sort of) also shared some friendly and informative emails with one of the owners, and viewed photographs of him and his son tasting wine in a Provence cellar. Le Grand Blanc is a blend of 30% Grenache Gris, 30% Chardonnay, 20% Roussanne, 10% Muscat, and 10% Rolle (aka Vermentino). think sugar plums typically arrive in July. Keep it simple. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, JULY 2, 2009 Wine of the Week - Terrebrune Rosé and Tapenade It is a rosé that typically benefits from cellaring. The 2007 Terrebrune rosé is 50% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, and 20% Cinsault. hope I have the self control to cellar one or both of my remaining bottles of this wine. I've never seen a June like the one we just had, with rain almost every day, skies overcast. Unlikely. -

SLAKED | WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2009 2008 Monte Bello Futures Tasting Difficult to compare to recent vintages (which have all included at least some cabernet franc or petit verdot) this is less flamboyant than the 2006 and 2007, and will benefit from extended cellaring. The 2007 Lytton Estate Syrah/Grenache ** is also tight, almost light, almost too searing, with blue fruits and tons of tannin. -
SLAKED | MONDAY, APRIL 20, 2009 2006 Sine Qua Non Grenache Raven Series From a central California vineyard, Sine Qua Non's 2006 Grenache Raven Series (8% syrah, 26% whole cluster fermented and aged in about 40% new French oak) is a purple color turning ruby on the rim - not opaque - but there is a certain density to the color here. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, MARCH 29, 2009 Brooklynguy's $20 and Under Case This is the "entry level" wine, which is a joke because it is a complete wine, ripe, complex, cellar-worthy. Syrah, and Grenache. For $14 you can get the 2007 Domaine Rimbert Travers de Marceau , a less intense and complex, but also very delicious wine that omits the Grenache and includes Cinsault and a little bit of Mourvedre. -
DR. VINO | THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 2009 Randall Grahm - the way back is the way forward - part II But his biggest experiment is with his 2008 wine called Le Cigare Volant, a blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. But if one makes the right adjustments in winemaking (lower levels of SO2, longer aging in cellar, holding the wine in bottle longer before release) the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience. Absolutely. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 2009 Obscure Grapes left this until the last minute, and then went to Slope Cellars , one of my absolute favorite Brooklyn wine stores. We also drank the 2005 Cellars Unio Roureda Llicorella Blanc , a white wine from Priorat made entirely of Pedro Ximenez, of Sherry fame. Apparently the white Grenache varieties are the common white grapes in Priorat. -

EAST VILLAGE WINE GEEK | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2008 TAKING THE STRESS OUT AND BRINGING IN THE FUN TO HOLIDAY WINE SHOPPING Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsaut, these are the most popular grapes of Southern France and vignerons (French winemakers) play around with them in the cellars to create their own identities. Ah, the Holidays. New York is full of festivities and gatherings and friends and family. Speaking of the perfect gift what about wine. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2008 Further Adventures in Blind Tasting It was an especially pure test for me because I have no idea what this guy keeps in his cellar, no clue about what he likes to drink. So I went with a Grenache based Rhone wine. Here are five red wines. They could be anything from anywhere in the world. Would you like to taste and try to identify them.blind? Never met him before. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, 2008 What I Drank on my Summer Vacation This is a Grenache blend, a natural wine from the Jenny & François Selections portfolio. You're going to tell me that it needs 20 years in the cellar, that I drank it too young. Another summer comes to an end. love summer in New York City. On the weekends it can get eerily quiet though, as people flee for the country. 2005 A. -
WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, JULY 2, 2008 Where on earth is Aragon? The reds were mostly blends, with Garnacha (grenache) the most popular varietal used. The 2006 Vina Alarba Red, made with 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah saw no oak aging and showed very nice pure fruit. It isn't a wine to be cellared, but its forest berries and nice structure made it a very nice quaffer, especially at $9 a bottle. -
ALICE FEIRING | MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2008 Alice Feiring - In Vino Veritas We could be at Oko Time in Ukiah drinking some absolutely fantastic REAL Handley Riesling or a surprising grenache from Eaglepoint. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 2008 Mature López de Heredia Rosé for Spring blend of 20% Tempranillo, 60% Garnacho (Grenache), and 20% Viura (a traditional white grape of Rioja). read a comment about this wine by someone named Slaton on Cellar Tracker and it really hit home for me: he suggested that the richness of the wine would make it a good pairing with crab. WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2008 Polaner tasting standouts tasted some nice Chardonnays by Foxglove/ Varner Wines , L'Angevin , DuMol and Neiman cellars. Interestingly enough, they make a 100% grenache wine called the (2005) St. Drew Neiman of Neiman Cellars is someone I had not met before, but whom I engaged in conversation as I noticed a wine I was familiar with on his table. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2008 An Imaginary Wine Vacation in Bandol In addition to Mourvèdre, Cinsaut and Grenache are also widely used, and Syrah and Carignan can be included in smaller amounts, up to 10% individually or up to 15% when they're both included. On the third day open, probably a good proxy for cellaring 10 years, the wine has lovely floral and black licorice notes. Why Bandol? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 2008 By the Glass - Restaurant and Wine Bar Edition Mostly Carignan, with some Grenache and Syrah thrown in, the 2005 Domaine des 2 Anes Corbieres Fontanilles was smooth and supple, ripe and complex. In the cellar, Gilles treats the grapes and then the fermenting juice, as delicately as possible. Among the various goodies we sampled that evening was a confit of duck leg. It is all tank. -
ALICE FEIRING | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2007 Alice Feiring - In Vino Veritas Sometimes that is the result of poor practice in the field, sometimes its just an effort to grow the wrong grapes in the wrong place, or a lousy growing season, or stupid mistakes in the cellar. And we were surprised to find that our first vintage, grenache/mourvedre, is delicious and very old-world, like a simple ctes du Rhone. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2007 Twelve at 12 Years Old: A Tasting of Mature Long Island Reds Bedell Cellars Cupola blend was the darkest wine of the flight, with an earthy and floral nose. also liked the Bedell Cellars Reserve Merlot, a wine that to me was quite different from the others. It reminded me of some grenache-based wines from the southern Rhone. The back roads of Pernand-Vergelesses? And a sense of place? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, JULY 6, 2007 Recent Sips - June 2007 This wine, like the above CDP, is mostly Grenache (90% in this case). Time will tell, as I have enough of this in the cellar to water your lawn. I kept meaning to write posts about some of the interesting wine I tasted in June, but I kept getting derailed. loved this wine back in March at the real Wine Attack Tasting. Good acidity. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2006 End of the Year Round Up first tasted this wine, a blend of 55% Tempranillo and 45% Grenache , at Rosewater Restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn. This was over a year ago, and we liked the wine enough that we bought 3 bottles for our "cellar" at Prospect Wine Shop. I find it hard to share notes about every wine that I enjoy. Remondo , $24. Good acidity. | |
