Lapostolle Tasting with Winemaker Andrea Leon Iriarte
Yet the Sauvignon Blanc, with just a hint of semillion, was crisp and delicious, as was the Carmenere. Carmenere is the grape of the moment, and Lapostolle is at the top of its game in terms of its attention to quality and especially its eye toward the future. Andrea Leon. There had just been an earthquake and the season had been wet.

Terra Noble Carmenere Gran Reserva 2009
Deeply opaque with a finely woven texture brushed with a swash of reddish purple hues, on the nose this Carmenere shows beautifully out of the glass, in fact I put it down for a minute to write some notes and could still smell the extremely rich aromatics.

Koyle Reserve Carmenere. Cristobal Undurraga Marimon is a member of the family known in the Chilean wine industry as “the pioneers,” who were among the first in the 1980s to bring the country’s fine, value-priced wines to the attention of the world. What's interesting about Christobal is that the family sold their original holdings in 1986.

Clos Ouvert Loncomilla: Chilean for savory carmenere
In a recent column on Slate.com , Mike Steinberger threw most Chilean carmenere under the oak bus. Behold a savory and delicious carmenere: the Clos Ouvert Loconmilla 2008. I’d also add that some of the ones that I’ve had carry an unwanted sweetness, probably from the oak and alcohol. Although the wine lists 14.5%

    Year In Review
One, the Carmenere, has been disappointing, but the Zinfandel, Syrah and the Peitie Sirah have joined the list of my favorites. Time to look back on what was an eventful year, personally and with the blog and my exploration into the world of wine. Here at home, I guess eventful would be saying it a tad mildly. Now for my best of 2010.

    Organic Wines of Chile
In March of this year I reviewed a few Carmenere wines from Chile and although they were not that bad, they still were not wines I personally would order when dining out or even buy as an everyday table wine. few weeks ago I received three red wines, an Eco-Balance Carmenere, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

I’ve wanted to sell the above line to Wines of Chile for some time. But I found another use for it: this article on natural wine by Mike Steinberger on Slate.com. It really advances the discussion.

Getting time to clean out the old wine fridge. After two months of laying around, drinking coffee, tea, water and gatorade and laying off the good stuff I am beginning to feel the need for a long day of wine shopping, but the fridge is full and I will just have to do my part in making room for more. Here the grapes for Frascati are grown.

With May and New York Riesling month coming to close soon, it is safe to say that I tasted more Riesling this month than any one year in my life. Both were opened with a BBQ chicken dinner.

Because of my work schedule and Shirley's extra long 'honey-do' list I never have the chance to do a tweet up on Twitter or follow a wine party on Facebook. You can add comments or photos or just sit back, relax, read what others are having and just sip away on your own wine.

In the late 1800's after the country had gained it's independence rich Chileans traveled the world and brought back with them vine cuttings of wines that are staples of the their wine industry today such as carmenere and cabernet sauvignon. I have been away for a bit. Sorry ‘bout that. Hopefully we can bring that across. Pretty cool.
