    The buyer was California’s E&J Gallo for their Red Bicyclette brand, which sells for about $9 a bottle.     would have enjoyed a touch more ripeness on the finish, but maybe I've been jaded by California wines. lovely wine for dinner, and probably warrants a higher score in 2-3 years. I am a sucker for discounted Chapoutier. What can I say? Some people claim these little touches mean nothing to the underlying wine, but I disagree.

    Premature oxidation of dry, age-worthy white wines–be they from Burgundy, Bordeaux or California–is a tremendous problem today, and at this point in time it does not look to me as if any meaningful progress has been made since the scourge first became readily apparent when the 1996 white Burgundies began to tank. think not.

    Some like it hot and high alcohol – others don’t
    Many of the pairings reaffirm the classics such as oysters with muscadet and sauternes with foie gras , so score one for intuition. For what it’s worth, I think he’s right; try spicy Thai dishes with high-alcohol gewurztraminer from Alsace or red zinfandel from California and be amazed by the synergy.

    It displays its varietal characteristics nicely, with more ground pepper and spice than many blueberry-dominated Santa Barbara look alikes that receive 90+ scores.     2004 Hanzell Chardonnay
    I've been wondering recently what it would mean if Hanzell, which planted the first pinot noir vines in California in 1953, received 95+ points from the major trade press regularly. One 99 point score from Robert Parker is pretty much all it would take. The 2004 is now five years old and tastes like a young Kongsgaard The Judge.

    What's In a 95 Point Wine?

    Wine Spectator's California Wine Experience
    routinely disagree with their wine scores (they gave Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2005 only 85 points - WTF are they thinking?!) Audrey, reading Wine Spectator in Lake Tahoe, Spring 2008) So it was with glee and trepidation that I ordered one ticket for the California Wine Experience at the Marriot in NYC - but mostly glee. Very fine.

    Pinot Noir Season
    The "Southing" 2004 is the second wine, much better with less sweet fruit and more balance, but still not worth the mega scores from the mega critics in my opinion. The crisp acidity and earthy flavors somehow compliment this brisk NYC air. Sweet tannins and fresh underlying acidity, with mild earth notes on on the finish. Cellar selection.

    Best bet (kosher) Israeli wines for Passover - at all price ranges.
    Rogov gives the 2004 the best score of the bunch, but any will do the trick at $14 or so. Relative to other wine producing regions (think California or France) this is still a very reasonable price point, but to be completely honest none of these wines get me too excited. The first price point you may ask about is the UNDER $10 range.

    The waitress recommended a California Pinot, but at $80 bottle, kinda steep, especially for someone who is not a big fan of California Pinot - too fruity!  My Napa contacts might kill me for saying this, but I think I preferred this wine to some of the high scoring California Pinot's I have had.     Yes, I didn't taste one Spanish wine, nothing from Australia, very few California wines, and I completely missed the lineup of dessert wine. tried a new rating system this time, scoring wines out of 10 points and writing only the briefest of notes in order to speed myself up. cannot enjoy myself that way.     2004 Shea Pinot Noir Wadenswil Clone
    If you're interested in Oregon wine you probably know by now that Shea 's crop of 2004 wines received high praise and high scores from Wine Spadvocator. And until recently, Sine Qua Non, the California cult winery, put out a Pinot Noir sourcing Shea grapes. am excited to report that the wine is truly fantastic. Not a tuna sandwich.
