Another excellent California wine. The more I learn about wine, the more I realize that I don't know. Even within the wine regions I know, I don't really know anything. Same is true with wine, I would say. Exciting and frustrating at the same time, isn't it? | | | | | | | | | | DR. VINO OCTOBER 6, 2009 Natural wines, premox, chenin blanc, 07 Port and Rhone – John Gilman Premature oxidation of dry, age-worthy white wines–be they from Burgundy, Bordeaux or California–is a tremendous problem today, and at this point in time it does not look to me as if any meaningful progress has been made since the scourge first became readily apparent when the 1996 white Burgundies began to tank. think not. | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE APRIL 26, 2009 Ethics and My Blog If I were an importer and I saw Brooklynguy's blog, I might say "I'm sending this guy my Beaujolais, my Sancerre, and my Provence red." Or "I'm sending this guy my California Roussanne that I think he'll find interesting, based on the other wines he likes." What spurred this? BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, APRIL 17, 2007 Roundup - Recent Sips Away from the more famous Loire villages of Vouvray, Chinon, and Sancerre, there lies the Loir river, the masculine counterpart to the Loire. California (huh? We cracked this at Mike's house at a recent holiday dinner and everyone, including seasoned California Cab fiends, was really impressed. Buy carefully in 2001. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2007 More Deliciousness from Cheverny won't lie to you folks, I've had no success in New Zealand, and mixed results in California. Sancerre and Pouilly Fume are the big shots for Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley, but great wines hail from appellations like Menetou Salon, Quincy, Touraine, and tiny Cheverny, and at about half the price. don't drink much Sauvignon Blanc. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2007 Sauvignon Blanc - a Mini Blind Tasting preferred the wine that took second place, the 2005 Lucien Crochet Sancerre La Croix du Roi (about $23, available everywhere). The two wines pulling up the rear, so to speak, were both from California. Good friends NorthCarolinaGuy and Gal were in town for a few days and what better reason to have a wine tasting? Another time. MORE >>
