    Visiting Chateau Cordeillan Bages, Luxury Hotel Association with Lynch Bages
    It is an 18 th century chartreuse house converted into a luxury hotel and restaurant, where Michelin starred Chef Jean-Luc Rocha's inventive cuisine, is paired with the wines of Chateau Lynch-Bages and perhaps another winery owned by the Cazes family, Château Ormes de Pez in Saint-Estèphe. Very soon I will visit Chateau Cordeillan Bages!

    Year in Review
    Each year, at least for the past three, I have been tasting new wines.(At At least new to me). New reds were just as interesting. Best Rosé - Every visit I made to a Finger Lakes winery this past year, I tasted a dry Rosé, brought quite a few home and enjoyed each and every one. delightful blend of Merlot and Cab Franc.

    also have become more interested in the wines of France. My best Rosé - Heron Hill Cabernet Franc Dry Rosé 2006. Although known primarily for white wines, the Finger Lakes does very well with Cab Franc and Lemberger and their red blends. Now a new year has begun and new goals must be set. Marvelous Wine!

    Stoney Lonesome Estates, Reserve White Merlot 2008
    My second choice was a 375ml bottle of white Merlot that was given to me by winery owner Dave Mansfield when I visited his Three Brothers Winery in May. Our visit to the winery just happened to be the same day that the white Merlot was being bottled. The white Merlot has been released and can be purchased at the winery for $17.

    I don't often go with Shirley and Pam to the Saturday morning Central New York Regional Farmer's Market, but I made an exception today. Treleaven Meritage 2007 produced and bottled by King Ferry Winery in King Ferry NY was exactly what was needed for the steak. King Ferry Winery was founded in 1984.

    With May and New York Riesling month coming to close soon, it is safe to say that I tasted more Riesling this month than any one year in my life. This week I decided to open a dry and semi-dry from the same winery to compare and I chose one of the nicest Rieslings so far; Chateau Lafayette Reneau 2008. Why, I'm not sure.

    Long Point Winery semi-dry Riesling 2008
    During the month of May at 8 pm on Mondays anyone can open a bottle of Riesling from any Finger Lakes winery and join in on Facebook or Twitter to chat about what wine you are having for the evening. My choice for the evening was a 2008 semi-dry Riesling( $14 ) from the Long Point Winery. All from the Seneca Lake wineries.

    In the Finger Lakes region it is very scarce, only two wineries grow Dornfelder and Fulkerson Winery is the only varietal wine producer. purchased the Dornfelder at the Fulkerson Winery while on the Deck the Halls tour last week. Add one more new discovery for 2009 and a reason to be very optimistic for 2010.

    In my last post about the Governor's proposal to allow grocery stores to sell wine, I didn't discuss New York wine producers. On the whole, NY wineries seem to support the proposal. There are about 21,500 grocery stores in New York State and about 2,500 liquor stores, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

    The new oak is very obvious right now, not overwhelming at all, but obvious. 2004 St Innocent Pinot Noir Temperance Hill , $25 (Winery). New York 2002 Castello di Borghese Cabernet Franc Reserve , $32 (winery). Very different style, to my palate, from the Loire Cabernet Francs I usually drink.

    Brooklyn Uncorked: A Tasting of Long Island Wines
    Here is what I like about them: The reds tend to be somewhat "old-world" in style - they offer complexity and balance that can be elusive among new world wines made with the big three Bordeaux grapes. They grow and make good Cabernet Franc. very tasty bottle of Loire Cab Franc from a good producer can cost about $15.

    We especially liked the wines at Castello di Borghese , a Cutchogue winery owned by an Italian Prince and Princess (although they apparently put the winery up for sale).
