    Regional Wine Week 2011
am one of the lucky few that will be enjoying only wines from the New York Finger Lakes each night during the week. On Sunday I opened my favorite Finger Lakes red wine, a Cabernet Franc. Ripe cherries, blackberries and plum and a very clean and smooth mouthfeel leading to a medium long dry and smooth finish.

    Shinn Estate Vineyards Rose` 2010
A few weeks ago I read a very nice review on the New York Cork Report about a Long Island dry Rose` made with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. It's only been about three years since I started to appreciate Rose` wine and they have all been 100% Finger Lakes Cab/Franc. Rose' New York Long Island

    Regional Wine Week 2010
bit under the weather and a big change in my drinking habits, because of my recent heart surgery, I was still planning on tasting some wines from some of the other regions in New York. On a recent visit to New York City, my wife was able to find some wines from Long Island and I was anticipating more than what I got.

    Treleaven Wines Meritage 2007
I don't often go with Shirley and Pam to the Saturday morning Central New York Regional Farmer's Market, but I made an exception today. King Ferry owns 27 acres of vines near the winery, and purchases another 10 acres' worth of fruit from the North Fork of Long Island. did stop at one and tasted their 2007 Meritage.

    Brotherhood Dry Riesling 2008
To continue Riesling month here in New York, I wanted to find something other than my favorites from the Finger Lakes region. Other than ordering on line, it is very difficult to find New York wines other than Finger Lakes and Adirondack wineries in the local shops. Tags: riesling New York Hudson Valley

NY Producers and Wine in Grocery Stores
In my last post about the Governor's proposal to allow grocery stores to sell wine, I didn't discuss New York wine producers. There are about 21,500 grocery stores in New York State and about 2,500 liquor stores, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Tags: Wine economics New York Wine

    NY Wine Tasting: Some Thoughts
Brooklyn Uncorked is the annual showcase of Long Island wine and food that you should make a point of attending if you live in or near New York City. would guess that they are, which is disappointing to me in that there is obvious potential out there to make delicious "real" wine that expresses Long Island terroir.

    Local Lamb with Local Wine
buy lamb from my farmers market, but when the market is out of season from January - March, my food coop carries lamb from Aberdeen Hill Farms in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. used an old friend from Southwest France instead. We decided to have a New York wine with our local lamb. Add 3/4 cup of white wine.

Twelve at 12 Years Old: A Tasting of Mature Long Island Reds
Imagine this: a gorgeous late September Sunday afternoon in the bucolic North Fork of Long Island, verdant fields of fresh sod, roadside patches teeming with young families picking bright orange pumpkins, the weary afternoon sun's rays coming in at an oblique angle casting a warm golden glow on everything. Okay, now about those wines.

Brooklyn Uncorked: A Tasting of Long Island Wines
I'm already a believer in Long Island wine. Multiple mini-tastings at Vintage NY , a bottle here and there at home, and a visit to the North Fork last summer convinced me of the high quality of many Long Island wines, and of the potential of the region in general. They grow and make good Cabernet Franc.

    Some New York Wines
In August my wife and I took a short trip to the North Fork of Long Island to explore and to taste some wine. We emerged from our tasting there with a few bottles of their 2002 Cabernet Franc Reserve and a 375 ml of a 2004 zippy desert wine made from late harvest chardonnay called Allegra. don't know much about riesling.
