Each year, at least for the past three, I have been tasting new wines.(At At least new to me). also enjoyed an Ice Wine for the first time and a couple of Finger Lakes bubbly's. New reds were just as interesting. delightful blend of Merlot and Cab Franc. should be back on track after the holiday season.

am one of the lucky few that will be enjoying only wines from the New York Finger Lakes each night during the week. On Sunday I opened my favorite Finger Lakes red wine, a Cabernet Franc. Year after year, this winery is producing some of the most outstanding Rieslings in New York.

Seemed to be stuck on Finger Lakes white wines all summer. did pass on a few nice California reds though and stayed with the Finger Lakes and a Salmon Run Meritage 2008 ( $11 ), a blend of 54% Cabernet Franc, 39.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.5% meritage Keuka Wine Trail Finger LakesMerlot.

A few weeks ago I read a very nice review on the New York Cork Report about a Long Island dry Rose` made with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. It's only been about three years since I started to appreciate Rose` wine and they have all been 100% Finger Lakes Cab/Franc. Rose' New York Long Island

I don't often go with Shirley and Pam to the Saturday morning Central New York Regional Farmer's Market, but I made an exception today. The winery and tasting room is located on the East side of Cayuga Lake between Waterloo and Ithaca. 61% Cabernet Franc, 28% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon.

With May and New York Riesling month coming to close soon, it is safe to say that I tasted more Riesling this month than any one year in my life. This week I will be visiting the east side of Seneca Lake and hope I have time to re-visit Chateau Lafayette Reneau. The hard part was deciding which ones I would post on the blog.

During the month of May at 8 pm on Mondays anyone can open a bottle of Riesling from any Finger Lakes winery and join in on Facebook or Twitter to chat about what wine you are having for the evening. Long Point Winery is located on the east side of Cayuga Lake on scenic Route 90 in Aurora, New York.

This past weeks edition of the Syracuse New Times, a weekly alternative newspaper published in Syracuse, New York, contained an interesting article on Finger Lakes Riesling. Gary noted four wineries, one of which I vaguely remember from an article written by Evan Dawson for the New York Cork Report.

To continue Riesling month here in New York, I wanted to find something other than my favorites from the Finger Lakes region. Other than ordering on line, it is very difficult to find New York wines other than Finger Lakes and Adirondack wineries in the local shops. Enough history.

The blog started out in 2008 only as fun thing to do and to give my new wine affiliate web site it's first link. That did not come close to changing when I moved to within one hour of the New York Finger Lakes region. When I made my first Finger Lakes wine tour in 2008, I went expecting to taste only white wines.

While visiting Damiani Wine Cellars on Seneca Lake this past spring I tasted an excellent Syrah and I was sold. On a recent tour I found what I believe is the best (so far) Finger Lakes Syrah and it was just a short drive south of Damiani at the Atwater Estate Vineyards. From that day on I was a fan.

Can't seem to find a Finger Lakes Riesling I don't like. Thanks to my son, this past weekend I opened a dry Riesling from Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars located in Lodi, NY, on the east side of Seneca Lake and my first stop on the annual " Deck the Halls " event on Dec. have to say his timing was impeccable. g/L pH: 2.93

Much of this change or palate expansion, if there is such a term, is directly related to the wines from the Finger Lakes region on New York. Sometime near the end of the year, I would like to post all that I have learned and the wines that I have come to enjoy over the past two years.

It seems every winery in the Finger Lakes has a Meritage. And then, there comes along one that is over and above any I have tasted before.

On our recent wine tour through the Finger Lakes , I begrudgingly tasted a dry Cabernet Franc Rose' from Heron Hill Winery. Winemakers notes: In certain years when the Cabernet Franc has a higher acidity than normal some of the harvest may be suitable for rosé winemaking. Yes Lenn, I was nuts. Great Buy!

I am just sitting back enjoying one of the many New York Finger Lakes wines I brought home from last weeks tour. Shirley and I started out a little late, but were able to taste some outstanding wines at five equally outstanding wineries along the southern east side of the Seneca Lake Trail and the west side of Keuka Lake.

I have no idea what occurred between the early 1980's and present in the case of New York Finger Lakes red wines. Last year, on the Cayuga Wine Trail, I finally found a few very nice reds and this past year discovered a new Finger Lakes winery that is producing some very excellent reds, the Damiani Wine Cellars.

We emerged from our tasting there with a few bottles of their 2002 Cabernet Franc Reserve and a 375 ml of a 2004 zippy desert wine made from late harvest chardonnay called Allegra. So now I know that Long Island makes serious wine.what about the rest of New York? keep hearing about the finger lakes and their riesling.
