    Year in Review
    Each year, at least for the past three, I have been tasting new wines.(At At least new to me). also enjoyed an Ice Wine for the first time and a couple of Finger Lakes bubbly's. New reds were just as interesting. delightful blend of Merlot and Cab Franc. should be back on track after the holiday season.

    Regional Wine Week 2011
    am one of the lucky few that will be enjoying only wines from the New York Finger Lakes each night during the week. On Sunday I opened my favorite Finger Lakes red wine, a Cabernet Franc. Year after year, this winery is producing some of the most outstanding Rieslings in New York.

    Salmon Run Meritage 2008
    Seemed to be stuck on Finger Lakes white wines all summer. did pass on a few nice California reds though and stayed with the Finger Lakes and a Salmon Run Meritage 2008 ( $11 ), a blend of 54% Cabernet Franc, 39.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.5% meritage Keuka Wine Trail Finger LakesMerlot.

    Shinn Estate Vineyards Rose` 2010
    A few weeks ago I read a very nice review on the New York Cork Report about a Long Island dry Rose` made with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. It's only been about three years since I started to appreciate Rose` wine and they have all been 100% Finger Lakes Cab/Franc. Rose' New York Long Island

    Finger Lakes Wine and Cheese
    This past autumn Shirley, Pam and I did a cheese tour of farms on the Finger Lakes. One of the first commercial goat dairy operations in New York State, beginning production in 1982 and located in Interlaken. Cabernet Franc Keuka Wine Trail Finger LakesAt least that is how I saw it.

    also have become more interested in the wines of France. My best Rosé - Heron Hill Cabernet Franc Dry Rosé 2006. How can I choose anything other than a Finger Lakes Riesling. All but three were Finger Lakes. Anyela's Vineyards , on Skaneateles Lake. Still have to put together that list.

    Regional Wine Week 2010
    Last year during regional wine week, I was able to taste (and consume a bit) some of my favorite wines from the nearby Finger Lakes. bit under the weather and a big change in my drinking habits, because of my recent heart surgery, I was still planning on tasting some wines from some of the other regions in New York.

    I don't often go with Shirley and Pam to the Saturday morning Central New York Regional Farmer's Market, but I made an exception today. The winery and tasting room is located on the East side of Cayuga Lake between Waterloo and Ithaca. 61% Cabernet Franc, 28% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon.

    Sometimes when you least expect it, you open what may becomes your new favorite bottle of wine. Tonight I opened one of my remaining bottles of Finger Lakes wine purchased at my last tour in December. An Atwater Estate Vineyards , Cabernet-Merlot 2007. blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot. Alcohol: 13.0%

    While visiting Damiani Wine Cellars on Seneca Lake this past spring I tasted an excellent Syrah and I was sold. On a recent tour I found what I believe is the best (so far) Finger Lakes Syrah and it was just a short drive south of Damiani at the Atwater Estate Vineyards. From that day on I was a fan.

    On our recent wine tour through the Finger Lakes , I begrudgingly tasted a dry Cabernet Franc Rose' from Heron Hill Winery. Winemakers notes: In certain years when the Cabernet Franc has a higher acidity than normal some of the harvest may be suitable for rosé winemaking. Yes Lenn, I was nuts. Great Buy!

    Finger Lakes wineries now number nearly 100, and one of the newest and most interesting is the tiny Damiani Wine Cellars (tel. 607/546-5557), in Hector on the east side of Seneca Lake. The family-owned winery produced its first vintage in 2004, and the cabernet franc and meritage are quite notable for its young age.

    buy lamb from my farmers market, but when the market is out of season from January - March, my food coop carries lamb from Aberdeen Hill Farms in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. should have used a finger lakes white, but didn't have one. used an old friend from Southwest France instead.

    Some New York Wines
    We emerged from our tasting there with a few bottles of their 2002 Cabernet Franc Reserve and a 375 ml of a 2004 zippy desert wine made from late harvest chardonnay called Allegra. So now I know that Long Island makes serious wine.what about the rest of New York? keep hearing about the finger lakes and their riesling.
