This year's best though is the Damiani Wine Cellars semi-dry Riesling 2010. Now a new year begins, but my blog goals will remain the same.

To continue Riesling month here in New York, I wanted to find something other than my favorites from the Finger Lakes region. Why Wine: Year in Review
The blog started out in 2008 only as fun thing to do and to give my new wine affiliate web site it's first link. That did not come close to changing when I moved to within one hour of the New York Finger Lakes region. That was until 2009 when I bought a nice Italian vin rosso from Damiani Wine Cellars.

While visiting Damiani Wine Cellars on Seneca Lake this past spring I tasted an excellent Syrah and I was sold. Winemakers Notes: Syrah has found an ideal home in the Finger Lakes , where our climate mimics France's Rhone Valley, where the grape produces some of the finest wines in the world. From that day on I was a fan.

Napa Valley Vintners In New York
Yes, it’s cold and dreary in New York. First, I’d like to apologize for the boorish NY rogues who elbow their ways to the front of the tables and stick their glasses under your noses as they demand, “Cabernet please!” Sean Larkin is producing exceptional cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot (on the Jack Larkin label).

The Puzelats grow Pinot Noir, Gamay, Côt (called Malbec in Argentina), Bréton (called Cabernet Franc in the film Sideways ), Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris (called Pinot Grigio in Italy), and the rarely seen Pineau D'Aunis and Menu Pineau (called Arbois in the Jura). They buzz with energy, some say "wildness." It works.

    Washington State Wine Tasting
Primehouse New York hosted the event. Washington wines have not made any kind of inroads in my cellar for two reasons: 1) they are mostly Bordeaux blends (there is plenty of Syrah and all sorts of other stuff too - I said "mostly"), not wines that I drink very often, and 2) prices are pretty high, even for the entry level wines.

Brooklyn Uncorked: A Tasting of Long Island Wines
Here is what I like about them: The reds tend to be somewhat "old-world" in style - they offer complexity and balance that can be elusive among new world wines made with the big three Bordeaux grapes. They grow and make good Cabernet Franc. very tasty bottle of Loire Cab Franc from a good producer can cost about $15.
