The Burgundies were not so impressive, on the whole. Maybe mature Burgundy doesn't show as well when surrounded by bigger, more obvious wines. The more I learn about wine, the more I realize that I don't know. Same is true with wine, I would say. | | | | | | | | DR. VINO OCTOBER 6, 2009 Natural wines, premox, chenin blanc, 07 Port and Rhone – John Gilman perfect example in my opinion of going over the top and valuing the process over the results could be seen with Domaine Leroy’s wines in the great, great red Burgundy vintage of 1993. John Gilman, author of the newsletter The View from the Cellar , joins us again for a Q&A. asked him six questions; he replied with over 10,000 words! | | | WINE TASTING GUY APRIL 30, 2008 Polaner tasting standouts began in a French table area and tried some Sancerres (made from Sauvignon Blanc), some white Burgundys (made from Chardonnay) and some white blends. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2006 Some Paris Restaurants That's right, I have now finished posting about our Burgundy trip. took us to Le Sancerre, a place that one of our books foolishly desribed as "one of the best wine bars in Paris." When we decided not to stay at Le Sancerre she said "I know a place near here," and we went to Le Petit Troquet on Rue L'Exposition. Magnifique! MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, MARCH 13, 2007 Did You See That? So you probably saw this piece on a Loire Valley family and a particular Sancerre. learned something reading this piece, something about Sancerre, a Loire appellation that I pay no attention to but should, something about the Cotat family and about Les Monts Damnes vineyard. Why did it impress me so? MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2008 Jenny & Francois Portfolio Tasting In case you're not familiar with Jenny & Francois , they import natural wines from all over France, from heavy hitters like Burgundy to unsung heroes like the Côtes de Duras (just northeast of Bordeaux, and considered Southwest France). 2006 Sebastien Riffault Sancerre Akméniné - huh? Maybe it's just odd wine making. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2006 2005 Vouvrays Have Arrived Sancerre and Pouilly Fume are of course well represented, but you can also find the lesser known (and lower priced) sauvignon blanc wines of Menetou Salon and Quincy. At $29 its a bargain, compared to great whites from Burgundy, for example. When BrooklynLady and I were there a year ago all of the vignerons were saying this. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 2007 Okay, Now for My Case One thing I should mention - I did not include red grapes other than Cabernet Franc - no Pinot Noir from Menetou Salon or Sancerre, no Gamay from Anjou.I 2005 Thomas-Labaille Sancerre les Monts Damnees , $21 (Our cases diverge here). Sancerre, the darling of wine bars everywhere a few years ago, is made from Sauvignon Blanc. MORE >>
