BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, JANUARY 8, 2012 Burgundy Wine Club 2012 - Pommard Seven friends and I pool our money every year to buy about 8 bottles of Burgundy wine, wine that we wouldn't buy individually because of the high cost and the risk of bad bottles. Pommard is not the most glorious of Burgundy appellations, not by a long shot. First, the good news: we had a great night and I love Burgundy Wine Club. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2011 My Dinner with Comtes Lafon Comtes Lafon is one of the iconic domaines in Burgundy. Maybe you don't know this about me, but I really like Burgundy wine. If I were to buy a bottle from roughly 1996 - 2002 there is the pre-mox risk too, although supposedly Lafon did a better job of avoiding pre-mox problems that did most other white Burgundy producers. -
DR. VINO | FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2011 Aging Muscadet on the lees – and a Melon de Meursault As the name of the grape (Melon de Bourgonge) suggests, it originally hailed from Burgundy. Some juice from Pierre Luneau-Papin’s vineyards recently made a trip back to Burgundy to be made into wine by none other than the maestro J-F Coche, making me wonder if it would be, in fact, be a Melon de Meursault. French wine

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2011 Sunday Lunch for the Ages - A Guided Tour of the Early Days of Rosenthal Wine Merchant We drank three mature white Burgundy wines, one from Meursault, one from Puligny, and one Corton-Charlemagne. Here is what they said to me: Meursault is a little bit oily in texture and smells a bit like hazlenuts, and the Perrieres vineyard is all about stones. Or any of the Burgundy wines did. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, JANUARY 10, 2011 Burgundy Wine Club The first rule of Burgundy Wine Club is: you do not talk about Burgundy Wine Club. A WINE STORY | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2010 Visiting Domaine Michel Bouzereau During Hospices De Beaune Weekend Next is the Meursault - Les Grand Charrons, which was fermented in stainless steel and will be bottled before Christmas. Meursault Le Limozin is next, made from a vineyard high on the slope resulting in a lively wine with minerals and kicking acidity. It is aged in old oak barrels and quite refreshing. -
A WINE STORY | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2010 A Visit to Domaine Langoureau during Hospices De Beaune Weekend 2010 2009 1er Cru Le Garenne had a tangy fruit element and high acidity, with the 2009 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru Le Piece sur La Bois very full flavored with an expressive nose. A WINE STORY | MONDAY, JUNE 14, 2010 Visiting Valpolicella & Friuli Gian explains that when the brothers founded the winery in 1860 they went to Burgundy to learn more about classic winemaking. As I wrote out my tasting notes, I realized they read like a description of a fine Meursault -- butter and some ripe apple on the nose, amazing acidity, a long delicious finish. And New York? Day 2. -

DR. VINO | TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2009 Natural wines, premox, chenin blanc, 07 Port and Rhone – John Gilman perfect example in my opinion of going over the top and valuing the process over the results could be seen with Domaine Leroy’s wines in the great, great red Burgundy vintage of 1993. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2009 Wine of the Week - Pierre Morey Bourgogne There are great Burgundy wines that cost $35, $50, and $100, but I don't believe that they are Bourgognes. What if you want to spend $25 or less, and drink red wine from Burgundy? Even though there are some great regional Burgundy wines, none of them are among the finest red wines of Burgundy. Are those wines "worth it?" -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, JULY 17, 2009 Wine of the Week - 2007 Thierry et Pascale Matrot Bourgogne Yes, it is a great white Burgundy, and yes, I got mine for $15 a bottle. You would know instantly that this is a Burgundy Chardonnay if it were served to you blind - it is that clean and true. This is focused, ultra-pure and clean Burgundy Chardonnay, lean, but balanced and delicious. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JULY 7, 2009 Burgundy Thoughts, Episode 42 I recently had the distinct pleasure of participating in the Wine & Spirits Burgundy tasting panel. In one session we tasted Meursault, 21 wines from the 2007 vintage. There were also some reds from the Côte de Beaune during that session, but really it was about 2007 Meursault. participated in two of them. Not yet, at least. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, MAY 10, 2009 Overachievers and Underachievers And my my pal Bruce had a bunch of people over for dinner and selected Burgundy as his wine theme, and he was quite generous with the bottles he opened. Overachievers: 1999 Domaine Leroy Meursault - Tough to get a handle on, but with time to re-taste and to think about the wine, it kind of blew me away. But you get my point. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, MARCH 22, 2009 Pierre Yves Colin-Morey Almost two weeks ago at the Michael Skurnik Grand Portfolio Tasting I tasted through Pierre Yves Colin-Morey's lineup of beautiful white Burgundies and it was really an amazing experience. Tasting through the lineup was a lesson in Burgundy terroir, and I've not before experienced that in an industry tasting environment. Aubin. -
ALICE FEIRING | THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 2009 Night of Burgundy: Part Three was missing plenty at the Meursault Perriers table where most of the heavy hitters were sitting, including Big Boy, in yellow kit scarf bowed about his neck, white pants, inspired by the spring weather perhaps? La Paulee, the extravagant BYOB part of the evening was insane. Masculine and luscious. It as going around, it seemed. Oh yes. -
DR. VINO | THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2009 Some upcoming NYC wine events March 7: At $1,400, my initial reaction to the La Paulée Burgundy bacchanlia is, “Holy crap! But fortunately the festivities also include a tasting of top Burgundies Saturday afternoon from 12 - 3. Given what just one of those wines would cost, it actually might just be a bargain–and a must for Burgundy buffs. -
ALICE FEIRING | SATURDAY, JANUARY 17, 2009 Alice Feiring - In Vino Veritas January 17, 2009 I caught up with Ted Lemon of Littorai Lemons own feel for the grape was informed by Burgundy (having made wine at Guy Roulots in Meursault), yet he believes its future lies in creating an authentic Californian identity and not in Burgundian mimicry. Hedda Gabler » Chardonnay Series: Part 3A. -
ALICE FEIRING | SATURDAY, JANUARY 17, 2009 Chardonnay Series: An Intermezzo with Ted Lemon His own technique was informed by Burgundy (having made wine at Guy Roulot's in Meursault) but there is no doubt that he is making wine in California and that is exactly the land he is trying to express through his bottles, and one of those grapes that he is giving voice to is Chardonnay. But the most demanding one is Chardonnay. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, JANUARY 12, 2009 Domaine Pierre Morey, Meursault Perhaps the finest and most memorable lesson that I received in Burgundy terroir came at the hands of Pierre Morey. We tasted through a large range of 2007 wines from Meursault, each with its own distinct personality. Peter, Tista, and Pierre Morey walking in Meursault. The Meursault 1er Crus. Pierre Morey in his cellar. -
ALICE FEIRING | THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 2008 Alice Feiring - In Vino Veritas Emilion » A Gamay In Burgundy August 28, 2008 Gamay, the underdog of the wine world has been in the work, deadline is Tuesday. still had Gamay on my brain on a recent visit to Burgundy, only an hour from gamay central, Beaujolais. Something about the ginger and delicacy in the wine reminded me of an older red Meursault. -
VIGNA UVA VINO | TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 2008 Interview with winemaker Luc Baudet from Chateau Mas Neuf That could be the time from a Meursault Genevrieres from the Comtes Lafon, with reasonable age (10 to 15 years). would love to try all terroirs of la Romanée Conti, Burgundy reds can really be fantastic when made exceptional. Terroir is a three fold concept: The most obvious first two are soils (and their interaction with vines.) -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 2008 Tasting Other Blogger's Recommendations And now, I can recommend them to you: The first of two were recommended back in November as part of Wine Blogging Wednesday's Silver Burgundy theme. I'm always interested in finding excellent Burgundy at good prices so when I saw this at Moore Brothers in Manhattan, trying it one was a no-brainer. Very pure and fresh. So sue me -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2007 A Swing and a Miss This happens to me most often with Burgundy wines, as I have not yet had enough Champagne to be badly burned. In Burgundy, even in a "classic" (meaning not exceptional, but not bad either) vintage, a solid producer can sell wine, even village level wine, for over $50 a bottle. But Burgundy is hit or miss, and everybody knows it. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2007 Silver Burgundy Roudup - WBW #39 As I keep hearing (and learning for myself) about Burgundy - it's all about the producer. He tastes a Viré-Clessé and a Vieille Vignes Viré-Clessé and finds them both to be excellent, but the VV wine is deeper, bearing some resemblance to a Meursault. Whoops - this wine turns out to be made from vines near Meursault. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2007 2005 Jean Manciat Mâcon-Charnay Vieilles Vignes Wine Blogging Wednesday is upon us again, installment # 39, and the theme is Silver Burgundy , or the wines of the Côte Chalonnaise or the Mâconnais. This is a brilliant white wine, a Chardonnay that could go toe to toe with some from the far more famous and expensive Côte d'Or, the home of the Montrachets and of Meursault. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2007 Holy Lavaux St Jacques, Batman! I've heard several wine people say that if the classifications were re-drawn today, Les Amoureuses in Chambolle-Musigny, Perrieres in Meursault, and this - Lavaux St Jacques would get Grand Cru status for sure. wonder who grew the grapes - there are a few exceptional producers who own vines in Lavaux, according to Burgundy Report -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2007 WBW # 39 Announced - Silver Burgundy What do you think of when you hear "Burgundy?" think of Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romaneé, Gevrey-Chambertin, and the storied villages of the Côte de Nuits, and also of Puligny, Meursault, Volnay, and the other superstars of the Côte de Beaune. For many of us, these are not everyday wines. Is this even possible? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2007 Martin Scott Portfolio Continued - White Burgundy The beautiful thing about going to the Martin Scott Portfolio Tasting, for me, is that I get to taste Burgundy wines that I have never before tasted, and that in all likelihood I will not taste again unless I go next year. Such a great way to learn about the character of the '05 vintage in white Burgundy. Highly drinkable. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2007 WBW #36 - Naked Chardonnay Heck, they've been making incredible Chardonnay in Puligny, Chassagne, and Meursault for over 100 years and they're definitely using new oak. I tasted two un-oaked Chardonnays for the 3rd Anniversary of WBW, both from Burgundy, but not from the Cote d'Or. Happy 3rd anniversary Wine Blogging Wednesday ! And why not participate? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2007 Wine Dinner Envy Innocent's winemaker, will be doing two outrageous wine dinners jointly with Volnay Burgundy legend (in Mark's mind anyway) Jean-Pierre Charlot of Domaine Joseph Voillot (Volnay). Both dinners will feature 2005 red and white Burgundies from Voillot and 2005 Pinot noir and Chardonnay from St. Voillot 2005 Meursault Chevalieres / St. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JULY 3, 2007 For the 4th, an American Wine He has a lovely looking 2002 1er Cru Meursault Les Charmes, but again, I don't feel quite right cracking open Deetrane's fancy wine. The wine was DELICIOUS, and it resembled good Burgundy Chardonnay far more than any California Chard I've had. recently discovered a Napa Valley Chardonnay that I really like. know, sounds odd, right? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, APRIL 24, 2007 2004 Lafouge Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Les Duresses will admit that I have a serious soft spot for Domaine Jean et Gilles Lafouge, as BrooklynLady and I had such a wonderful visit during our Burgundy trip last November. Auxey-Duresses is a village in the Cote de Beaune, a neighbor of Meursault, Monthelie, and Saint Aubin. And Lafouge is one of my favorites. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2006 Tasting at Domaine Jean et Gilles Lafouge BrooklynLady and I continued our white Burgundy education at Domaine Lafouge. 2005 Meursault. Still, maybe not my favorite style of white Burgundy - very big and full bodied. 2004 Meursault. think I learned that Auxey-Duresses is not my favorite village in Burgundy. Prominent minerals on the palate. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2006 Burgundy Trip Continued: Domaine Jean-Philippe Fichet For some reason, it didn't occur to me that our appointments might be with producers who focus on making white wine - BrooklynLady and I are Pinot lovers, and are basically ignorant about Burgundy whites. We drove with Jeanne Marie to Meursault on a Tuesday morning to visit Domaine Fichet. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2006 A Great Tasting at Moillard Grivot am not usually drawn to large negociant houses, but I read through Nikolai Vogel & Kilian Fitzpatrick's lovingly written descriptions of their Burgundy tasting trips. Our tasting notes: 2005 Moillard Grivot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes , E29. And you don't need an appointment. The house was literally the tip of the iceberg. | |
