Here are some of the wines that stood out for me: 1992 Edmunds St John Syrah Grand Heritage. The Burgundies were not so impressive, on the whole. Maybe mature Burgundy doesn't show as well when surrounded by bigger, more obvious wines. Who knew. | | | | | | | | | | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE JULY 15, 2010 What's in an Old Bottle? Of course it isn't always possible, and with the Vallana Spanna wines, there are questions and few definitive answers. If these wines were represented the way Burgundy wines are represented, as pure Pinot from one specific vineyard, that would be problematic. Some say that Syrah might have made it into Spanna at times. | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE JUNE 22, 2009 Two Kinds of Ripe do not have a definitive answer for you, but Lars talked about phenolic ripeness and I want to explain what I think he meant - it's an interesting and counter intuitive idea. Lars Carlberg recently left another informative and interesting comment on this blog, this time to the post on Domaine Tempier's 1994 Bandol. Why has this happened? | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE MARCH 29, 2009 Brooklynguy's $20 and Under Case If this wine were from someplace famous like Burgundy it would cost $50. Syrah, and Grenache. Great definition and clarity for a full bodied wine from the Roussillan, with a lovely perfume of ripe fruit and lots of interesting mineral and soil tones. 75% Syrah, some Grenache, Cinsault, and Mourvedre make up the balance. | | | | | | | | | -
WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2008 Polaner tasting standouts began in a French table area and tried some Sancerres (made from Sauvignon Blanc), some white Burgundys (made from Chardonnay) and some white blends. Hubery Lamy of Burgundy presented 3 wines. wine I will definitely keep an eye out for in the future. Denis section of Burgundy. Zinfandels and 1 Syrah. don't know. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2008 Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally) And finally the Peay 2005 "La Bruma" Estate Syrah, which I was told came from a very cool Syrah site, was also not a fruit bomb like some of the other Syrah's I tried. Definitely one I'll be on the lookout for! then moved on the the Burgundies of Domaine Henri Jouan. Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 2007 Notes From the Dressner Real Wine Attack Tasting My 5's 2004 Eric Texier Cote-Rotie , $62 - This Northern Rhone Syrah was lighter than his other reds, incredibly intense nose of roasted meat and herbs, olives and soil. 100% Syrah from the resurrected Brezeme vineyard, this is light in color, but intense with plums, herbs, and tar, and really well balanced with nice acidity and low alcohol. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, 2007 WBW #33 - Mid-Priced Midi Wines This is hot weather France where hardy grapes thrive, like Grenache and Mourvedre, Cinsault and Carignan, and of course, Syrah. Do they permit varying percentages of Syrah, for example, or it is an elevation and wind thing? The tannic feel of this wine was very different from that in the Loire reds and Burgundies I am used to. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 By the Glass - Purity Edition get it when I can sense how clean the fruit is, when I can feel the clarity and definition of its aromas. Not your typical Syrah, that's for sure. But the aromas of young Syrah fruit - bacon fat, horses, purple flowers, herbs and earth - they are all readily apparent. This is not a post about wines that are chaste. You decide. MORE >>
