For four glorious months I took barrel samples from Downing barrels and brought them back to the lab for analysis. The head of the lab encouraged us to try the samples frequently (which I did) so being able to now try the 2004 "Two Barrel Reserve" Cab FROM THE BOTTLE was a real treat. | | | | | | | | | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE OCTOBER 20, 2006 Golden Nugget of a Tasting, Part II Its an incredible learning experience to sample a flight of 2000 Bordeaux and then compare that to another flight of Bordeaux from 1970 to 1990. The highlight for me though was tasting 6 Burgundies, 3 of them Grand Cru wines. have never tasted Grand Cru Burgundy before and I'll tell you, it felt great - something I could get used to. | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE APRIL 29, 2007 Wine with the In-Laws, San Diego Style Anyway, here are the wines we sampled on this visit 1996 Cristom Pinot Noir Mt Jefferson Cuvee, Willamette Valley - Funky, rotting aromas at first, but blew off to reveal mellow red and black berries, leathery earth. Over the hill, flat with no discernable acidity, not unpleasant but definitely past its prime. alcohol - not too bad. | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE MARCH 27, 2007 Notes From the Dressner Real Wine Attack Tasting Also, the vignerons poured not only their entry level wines, but their top wines, and this provided the opportunity to taste a $62 Cote Rotie without actually buying it, which is much appreciated if you are in my tax bracket and you want to sample the wares before investing. Definitely a $15 beauty. hauled my butt into Manhattan (!) | | | | | | | | | -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2008 Clos Rougeard.if I Ever Go Back So this is an investment, not just in the Burgundy type of cash, but also in cellar space. If you spend $55 on a Burgundy, are you definitely getting the finest example? know I'm supposed to wait, but in 2007 I sampled two of the wines and one of them was pretty mind blowing, the other just plain old excellent. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2007 Silver Burgundy Roudup - WBW #39 As I keep hearing (and learning for myself) about Burgundy - it's all about the producer. Lafon's Montrachet and Meursault sell for LOTS of money, and are some of the more sought after wines in Burgundy. He says the 05 VV was opened too early, but he calls it a definite rebuy that should be great down the line. hear that. MORE >>
