Tasting the 2010 Vintage from Joseph Drouhin
The 2010 vintage was harsh in Burgundy , yet ultimately turnedout to be a very classic vintage and one of the smallest crops in twenty years. today I thought that the Puligny-Montrachet Folaires and the Chambolle-Musigny showed particularly well and were my personal favorites. Fans of Joseph Drouhin all have their favorites.

    Domaine Dominique Gallois
Widely regarded as being the most full-bodied and masculine of the region, the village's wines have an intensity of color and rich, deep flavors which many label as “masculine” while the wines of the nearby Chambolle-Musigny are called “feminine.” This is important for long, slow fermentations and great aging potential. Remembering to Care About Proper Storage
1983 Servelle-Tachot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes was simply a delicious wine. There are several interesting things to say about this wine, for example, that it reminded us more of Gevrey in character than of Chambolle, with its earthy red fruit. 2004 Burgundy Red Wine - How Bad is it?
It is commonly said that 2004 is the worst recent vintage for red wine in Burgundy. As Bill Nanson of Burgundy Report first wrote about , ladybugs were all over the vineyards in 2004. People who are new to Burgundy are often amazed at the high price, especially when it comes to the red wines of the Cote de Nuits. This was also the day to taste Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis. According to Burgundy by Anthony Hanson, after the battle of Rocoy in 1643 the population was reduced to thirty.

That is, unless one is in Burgundy where the chic restaurant Ma Cuisine is built on the grounds of a former royal stable, and the very warm and welcoming home of negociant Becky Wasserman -- in a charming village outside the city -- was originally built to shelter animals hundreds of years ago. Burgundy is a complex region to understand.

Wine of the Week - Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges
enjoy pairing this and other dishes like it, with red Burgundy wines. particularly like the way the hoisin character of Chambolle-Musigny works with this kind of food, but I didn't have any in the house. Burgundy Thoughts, Episode 42
I recently had the distinct pleasure of participating in the Wine & Spirits Burgundy tasting panel. 2007 was a classic ( read - normal ) vintage in Burgundy, and the acid levels are high. Nothing wrong with that, but that part of Burgundy not what captivates me, and a blind tasting bore this out. participated in two of them.

    Thoughts on Points
One question is this: is a 93 point Chambolle-Musigny better than a 93 point Savigny-les Beaune? The highest ever score for a Chambolle wine is a 99. So this clearly shows that Meadow's thinks that the wines of Chambolle can achieve significantly greater heights than can the wines of Savigny. And why not hate?

    A Harmonious Valentine's Dinner
remembered the distinct hoisin, Chinese spice aromas that I get on the wines of Chambolle-Musigny. But I remembered reading somewhere that Lignier-Michelot's Bourgogne is made from grapes in Les Bon Bâtons, a plot in Chambolle. Same Terroir, Different Hands
I was thinking about my Burgundy trip the other night at 3:30 am while rocking a squalling baby in the crook of my arm. About 14 of its 15 hectares are in Chambolle-Musigny and one lone hectare, the northern most portion, is in Morey St. We sampled well over 100 wines from barrel representing many different terroirs. This is the first Burgundy Trip 2008 post. also learned a lot about terroir in Burgundy. The main things I learned about terroir are this: 1) Terroir is real in Burgundy. On this trip I understood how desperately little I actually know about Burgundy wine. You can expect a steady stream of these for the next few weeks.

    Burgundy Confusion: Episode 74
They say it's all about the producer in Burgundy. The other night I drank a Chambolle-Musigny that was fine, nothing special. The confusing thing is this: the Chambolle-Musigny was a 2004 by none other than Georges/Christophe Roumier, the legendary producer whose wines are collected by the most fancy-pants of wine folk.

There was everything from Grand Cru Burgundy to Barolo to Sancerre ros é. The Burgundies were not so impressive, on the whole. The only one that seemed promising to me was a 1999 Geantet-Pansiot Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru , but even that did not have the same captivating factor as some of the other reds. Who knew.

2005 in Burgundy is one of those vintages in which all wines can be great. These grapes are from 50 year old vines in Bon B â tons, the plot in Chambolle-Musigny that gives forth a couple of solid Bourgognes (Barthod, Rion). Yes, in 2005, some producers made humble regional wines that will knock your socks off. And forth.

Speaking of the search for value in red Burgundy wines. If you take the train from Paris to Dijon and drive south to Burgundy, you go through Marsannay (an up-and-coming appellation), then Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Flagey-Echezeaux, and Vosne-Romanee, the powerhouses of red wine production in Burgundy.

have been sampling some older experiments using this strategy, a few 2001 Pinots from Oregon and Burgundy, 2002 was considered the star vintage in both regions. This kind of thinking is especially important for me now that every few years it seems to be "the vintage of the century" in Burgundy (or Bordeaux, others too). So beautiful.
