2001 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino *
Considering all the hoopla surrounding the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG recently, I didn't know what to expect of this wine. I'd always enjoyed Argiano's wines, and I was disappointed to learn that the brunellos had - just maybe - been doctored with cabernet, merlot, or syrah. But even if that was true, this was just too good to ignore.

Tenuta Greppone Mazzi Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva 1999 DOCG
Tenuta Greppone Mazzi Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva 1999 DOCG • This vintage was one of the best of the 90's decade (a close second behind 1997, the best in 100 years) in all of Italy. The Brunello grape is a close relative of the Sangiovese and the color is a deep ruby red with 14% alcohol. Thanks C & G. Unbelievable

European Wine Laws: Prohibitive or Protective?
For example, we could certify traditionally made wines as Brunello and everything else as IGT. In The Pour, Eric Asimov made some interesting comments about the purpose and success of European beverage law - [link]. But the law can only function to protect a tradition if the tradition is worth protecting. How should consumers respond?

Interview with Augusto Cardona, Sales Manager, Italian Wine Merchants
These Bordeaux have such large production, to me if I am going into the priceless realm, I would have to say the 1888 Biondi Santi Brunello Riserva would be up there. Tuscan winetasting and food pairing at Uvarara
Third up was Argiano Rosso di Montalcino (also nicknamed baby Brunello ) 2006 DOC. Made from 100% Brunello (Sangiovese), this wine is in wood for 1 year. Today at Uvarara Vineria E Ristoro I had the pleasure of experiencing wines paired with wonderful dishes inspired by cuisine from Tuscany, Italy. First up was a 100% Sangiovese.

For the 4th, an American Wine
This wine was so good that Deetrane and I made a four player trade involving his 2 remaining bottles of Stony Hill and a few reds that were languishing on the bench on my team (2001 Flor de Pingus, 1999 Tenuta Friggiali Brunello di Montalcino). recently discovered a Napa Valley Chardonnay that I really like. know, sounds odd, right?

    Adventures in Wine Buying.Continued
have last 7 btl mix Barolo + Brunello. And now we return to our story, featuring Deetrane, guest-poster and pal extraordinaire: At the end of the first installment I had just told the Esca staff that I had been buying their wine - stolen from their cellar. When the time came to leave, we were told that the check had been taken care of!

    What to Serve with Lasagne?
realized that the only bottles of Italian wine I have, both 1999 Brunellos, are buried literally on the bottom of the wine fridge. BrooklynLady made a wonderful lasagna the other night, with goat cheese and fresh ricotta, turkey sausage and homemade tomato sauce - she used the really tasty San Marzano tomatoes. have a nice 2001 Palacios de H.

    September Wine Dinner
Dee-trane brought a 1999 Le Gode Brunello di Montalcino to pair with the shortribs. Three months ago when my buddy Dee-trane and I were talking about how we wished for more opportunities to taste wine together, our monthly wine dinner was born. Last night was our third installment. This wine was just delicious, my favorite of the night.
